They resemble men more then trollocs in size, intelligence, and appearance. Even though they are half human and half trolloc, they are greatly different from either because the darkness twists them. They have tall, muscular bodies and all look very similar. They have brown, black, or golden skin and black hair. They are very quick and move with much grace. Myrdraals have no eyes, yet they can see extremely well.
Myrdraals can disappear in shadow and can reappear in another shadow far away. They are not reflected in mirrors, instead a misty form shows in the glass. The only weakness of the Myrdraal is the fear of running water. They avoid, whenever possible, crossing any river, stream, or channel. Their strongest weapon is their eyeless gaze, the stare from which causes paralyzing fear.
Myrdraals helped solve the Trolloc problem because they controlled them with fear. The Myrdraals salvaged the Trollocs as soldiers and commanded them. Myrdraals can also link with Trollocs and control their minds and wills. The Myrdraal was the weak link, if it was killed, the Trollocs it was controlling were killed.
All Myrdraal are male and completely lack individual expression. They prefer a solitary existence and have no sense of humor. They are much harder to kill than Trollocs and even though mortally wounded they don't completely die until the setting of the sun.
Their weapons, armor, and fighting style are very sophisticated. They wear black articulated plate designed in multiple overlapping strips over black gambeson and breeches. A black cloak with deep cowl is worn over the armor and usually covers the sword. Myrddraal swords are only made at a gray-roofed forge on the slopes of Shayol Ghul at Thakan'dar, only yards away from the pit of doom. Shadow forgers skillfully make their swords After being shaped the swords are quenched in the black waters of Shayol Ghul and seasoned with a human soul. Any wound from these swords brings death; the wounds fester and willnot heal without the aid of the One Power. The Myrddraals are skilled fighters and would be almost just as deadly with a regular steel blade.
