CRIMSON TIDE HELMETS:

Since Alabama abandoned the leather helmet in 1948, the Crimson Tide has rarely deviated from their original helmet design. The two instances are as follows: In 1969, a football shaped 100 decal on side of crimson helmets were worn to celebrate the 100th year of college football. White-shelled helmets were used by Alabama sporadically during both the 1960s and in 1983 and 1984. During the 1960s, there were some occasions when the entire team wore white helmets, and that at other times only a few receivers wore white helmets, while their teammates wore the usual crimson helmets. During the 1983-1984 period, white helmets were worn by the whole team during night games or when the opposing team's helmets were similar in color to Alabama's crimson helmets.
