A
large genus, Gentiana, of the Gentian family,
with four hundred species, found in temperate and
mountainous region in any continent except Africa.
Most are perennial herbs, a few annual or biennal.
The usual color of the Gentian is BLUE,
but there
are also PURPLE,
WHITE and YELLOW
varieties. Many
are native in the Alps, where they are a conspi-
cuous part of the flora.
