T. Walker's Fire Safety and Tip's Page

Hi, my name is Terry Walker. I spent 29 years, 8 months, 21 days and 17 hours as an American Firefighter and I have recently retired as a Training Chief / Fire Investigator. I am the Lead instructor for Fire Investigator at the Alabama Fire College. I Welcome you to my page.

A special Hello goes out to:

All you WAR EAGLE fans!

Hi!

May God Bless and Keep You Safe.

Oh and a big HELLO! to

Julie and Family!!

Congratulations on your new home!

.

Summer is almost gone and fall is just around the corner. Let's be careful with burning leaves!

My favorite quote, comes from Abraham Lincoln:

Kindness is the only service that will stand the storm of life and not wash out. It will wear well and be remembered long after the prism of politeness or the complexion of courtesy has faded away.

When I am gone, I hope it can be said of me that I plucked a thistle and planted a flower wherever I thought a flower would grow.

Learn Not To Burn!

I would like to offer my prayers and condolences to the families of all my fire service brothers and sisters who have died in the line of duty this year.

"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends"

(John 15:13)

GOD Bless the MFD

Lay me down beside cool waters,
And lay to rest my body sore.
Send the word out to my brothers,
The fire is down, let it burn no more.

On The Lighter Side:

If you have a fire service related anecdote that you would like to share, E-mail me at twalker@hughes.net or sign my guestbook and leave it there. I will include it on my page in the future along with your name. Please keep it as brief as possible.

Smoke detectors save lives!

FACT: Each year, nearly 1,000 children ages 14 and under die in home fires. Ninety percent die in homes without working smoke detectors.

FACT: Smoke detectors should always be properly maintained. Try to change the batteries in your detector each time you reset your clocks for the time change.

FACT: Fires give off heat, smoke, super heated gases and of course flame. All of which can be fatal. A smoke detector will alert you early!

FACT: Oxygen is not only essential for human life, but also is the key to supporting the life of fire. When fire and humans compete for the limited amount of oxygen in a burning building, FIRE ALWAYS WINS!!!

Children have a natural curiosity of fire and we as adults should set a good example for them to follow. Remember children learn by watching and imitating adults.

Fire is not a toy and never should be played with.

Keep all matches and lighters out of the reach of children, even a two year old can operate a lighter or strike a match.

Children need to be taught that fire is a useful tool and should be treated as such. That fire can easily get out of control and that only adults can safely use fire and must follow special fire safety rules.

Children as well as adults should never re-enter a burning building after it has been exited. If someone is missing, let firefighters go in and get them, they are highly trained for this and have a better chance of getting someone out alive.

If you don't have a smoke detector, get one. If you already have one, get another one. The more the merrier and the safer you will be!

If you have any questions or would like information on something not seen here, please feel free to E-mail me at: walkerfd7@bellsouth.net

Lest we forget:

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
(2 Timothy 4:7)
