Personal Tribute to Scott Hamilton

Entertainer, Commentator, Skater, Skate God for Life in fact. Funny, inspiring, couragous, talented, knowledgeable. All these words have been used to describe Scott Hamilton, but they don't even begin to describe this remarkable man. No one in the world thought the little frail boy from Ohio would make it this far. But those two stars in the sky you saw smiling last night.........that was Dorothy and Ernest Hamilton. They are oh so proud of their boy. Forty years ago, God gave them a son. In turn, they gave their son the oppurtunity to become the world's hero he is today. For this, I personally thank you Dorothy and Ernie.

I could waste a lot of space and time, and tell you all of Scott's accomplishments, but that's not why I admire him. All the medals in the world can't replace the smile he can put on a sick child's face.

Kurt Browning himself has said that the greatest single moment in his career was the moment he found out Scott would be okay. To me, this speaks volumes. There's not a skater out there that would tell you Scott isn't one of their heros. Not a sports hero, but a man's hero. People don't admire him for his triple lutz, they admire him as a human being.

Ever genorous of his time, energy, and love, Scott has inspired many people. He can make everyone in the world smile, just as fast as he can make everyone cry. Not out of pity, but out of respect, love, admiration, and courage. Respect for a man who never says no to his fans, skates for the right reasons, and gives so much of himself in every performance. Love is so easy to give back when it is received. Scott once said, "I belive people are more emotional trampolines than they are spoonges." It wouldn't be able to bounce off us, if not first recieved from him. Admiration for the same reasons we love and respect him! Courage because he never gives up. Not only has he never given up, he teaches others how to learn not to give up. He has a spirit about him that makes the tough times just that much easier. He knows how to look at the bright side, no matter how dim or little it may be.
