Marques Barrett Houston was born to his loving parents, Michael and Carolyn Houston on August 4, 1981 at 11:00AM in Los Angeles, California. Marques began to show signs of a great entertainer by age two. In an interview with his father, published in a previous Immature Magazine, Mr. Houston recalls an incident from Marques's early childhood: "When he was two years old, we had taken him to the doctor because he was sick. At that time people were break dancing. Well, he got everybody to look at him. He stood out there, looked at the people, smiled, then he started break dancing. Now, he's supposed to be sick and he's entertaining in the middle of the floor! He's always loved that. He's always been that kind of guy."
Yep, Marq has been quite an entertainer for almost his whole life. We've had the great opportunity of watching this young rising star.
Marques began entertaining professionally at about the age of nine. With the help of manager Chris Stokes, Marques, Jerome Jones, and former member Don Santos joined to form Immature in 1990. Immature earned public attention when they appeared in House Party III and attained a recurring role on A Different World . Marques himself was chosen to provide the voice of Khalil in Bebe's Kids.
However, Immature's first LP, On Our Worst Behavior , didn't fair too well on the charts. Soon after the album's failure, Don's parents began to worry about his grades. Don was removed from the group to preserve his education. But the remaining members of Immature, Marques and Jerome, refused to give up. After a suggestion from Marques, Kelton Kessee (Marq's neighbor and Immature's former drummer) was chosen as a replacement. So, with a new style of music, a new attitude, a MUCH better wardrobe, and a new member, Immature hit the music scene again and hit hard !! Their second LP Playtyme Is Over went platinum and hit #26 on the R&B charts. Every LP afterwards have proved to be collections of unforgettable hits.
Our Marq not only provided mesmerizing lead vocals for Immature, but aquired a recurring role on the WB sitcom Sister, Sister as Roger, Tia & Tamera's annoying next door neighbor. If there was ever anyone more different from Marques than Roger, I sure don't want to meet him! Roger, once adorned with his trademark playful dreds, used to be hopelessly in love with Tia & Tamera, but lately it seems that Roger has a life of his own.
Marques, through all this fame & excitement has somehow managed to remain down-to-earth and humble. He realizes that fame, fans, and money can leave as quickly as it came.
Though young, Marques has had his share of ups and downs. One of the sad "downs" was when his beloved mother, Carolyn Denise Houston, passed away, due to cancer, on February 21, 1997.
Marques Barrett Houston is one of the "Few Good Men" left out there and whoever steals this fly cutie's heart away is a lucky girl!!
To finish this bio up, I must send a BIG "THANK YOU" out to Michael and the late Carolyn Houston. You did a wonderful job on creating and raising Marques to be the fine, young man he is today. All of us fans appreciate you for this, and I just thought you deserved to know!!!
