Kobuk entered my life from the back of a pickup at a weight pull in February of 1990. He was 9 months old, and prior to coming to the weight pull, had never seen a man! His guardian at the time was Joyce, a musher. Kobuk was too slow for her fast team, and too fast for her slow team, so she had brought him in hopes of finding him a good home. He took to my wife and daughter well enough; in fact, when my wife took him home, Kobuk made a beeline for her chair, leapt up, and made himself at home! It took 9 solid months before he decided that I was OK...

Over time, he became a champion weight puller. He kept his title for 4 years, always finishing in the top 4 at any meet he entered. After that time, he and I retired from competition.
