Trip report day 2
Day 2 –I wake up as the sun is rising and there was an unbelievable golden glow on the entire resort. Along with the rope lights decorating the trees (that still show) the glow from the sun on this new resort gives us a wonderful sight to wake up to. We go down to the Café Solaris for breakfast and I visit the Omelet station. You can get an omelet (kind of – this guy has no idea how to cook an omelet), pancakes, waffles or eggs cooked to order. Breakfast is good – a strange omelet but good.
Down to the Sea of Cortez – the water is beautiful but too rough to swim in at the resort. We are warned about the very strong undertow and we don’t need any more warnings. Heather had a great time playing on the beach for a while, then over to the pool. Oh My God!!! It’s freezing!!!
The website says the main pool is heated. There must be another pool even bigger and better than this one (which is very pretty!). We ask a staff member where the heated pool is. He says they don’t have a heated pool and asks where we got the idea that they did. We said the website. He suggests with a smile that we have a few shots of tequila and the water won’t feel so cold. Great idea except we have an 8-year-old with us. Over to the side of the pool and we walk through the attached kiddie pool. Hold on a minute – this water is pretty warm!
After further investigation we find out that the pool is heated but they keep the heater so low that only the 12-inch deep kiddie area is warm. After awhile the water warms up from the sun enough to get in even though it is NEVER comfortable. Like most days at the Cancun RS we choose to eat at the pool grill for lunch. The smell coming from Rosamarinus is great and we say that tomorrow we will go there.
We stay at the pool until about 3:30 meeting people from mainly the NW USA and Alaska. There are also some folks from St. Louis and from Chicago. Overall this seems to be San Francisco Bay Area week at the Royal Solaris los Cabos.
Heather has her hair done in full braids. She is so darn cute!!! She didn’t complain about it hurting as much this year and she looked great when they were finished.
Dinner is where the RS starts to lose me. I remember in Cancun that dinner was not great, but it was never bad. We were eating a “surf and turf’ dinner at Rosamarinus Grill and this is just bad. The meat was of questionable quality and they look at you strange if you ask for more than the smallest of portions. After I taste it I think maybe they did me a favor in not giving me too much on my plate.
Up to the lobby – oops! – I forgot, there is no action in the lobby. We watch the Broncos and Colts are on the TV and it’s snowing. All of a sudden I’m reminded how lucky I am to be in Cabos. Overall I guess this was an okay day – tomorrow we’ll go into CSL and we’ll have a super day!!! After all, it’ll be Monday and instead of being at work I’ll be in a beach paradise!
