Not impressed. That's not to say it was all bad, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Not comparable
to a five star hotel in the U.S.The Good:
With the exception of one grumpy bartender, all hotel staff were very friendly and prompt. Service was
quite good. Responsive to most problems. On a nice beach. They have many warning not to swim in the ocean here due to strong currents, but it's
really not too bad. While children should definitely not swim here, adults should be fine. When waves are
larger, there is some undertow, but body surfing is decent and there was no rip current whil I was there.Despite numerous warnings about timeshare salespeople, I was never approached by one at or away
from the hotel. And now the Negative Stuff:
Pool was just too darn cold. The ocean was actually warmer! Also, as others mentioned, there were many
missing tiles in the pool.Food was very mediocre. Same basic items and sauces prepared in slightly different ways. By the end of
a one week stay I couldn't bring myself to eat another meal there.I was served watered down liquor! It's all you can drink, but you need to drink a lot to notice any affect.
I didn't notice at first since I started with things like Pina Coladas where you can't taste the liqour anyway,
but later I had a martini at the lobby bar that tasted really weak. I chalked it up to leaving it in the shaker
too long. Next I had a shot of tequila. Straight. Not even with lime and salt. And it barely burned! I'm sure
it was not straight tequila. Also, the only beer they have is Sol.Shody construction. The place is only one year old, and already showing signs of wear. As mentioned,
pool is missing many tiles. This has been patched in some places. Not yet in others. It rained while I was
there and I noticed at least 3 roof leaks, including two in the lobby. Also several dead palm trees. The
rooms are very sparten and cheap feeling too, particularly the beds which are on those cheap metal
frames with plastic coasters like you buy at Costco. To their credit, they did seem to have a lot of people
doing constant maintenance, particularly painting. They claim to have purified water in all the taps, and I think most of the time this is true. However, one
night there was a heavy rain, and late in the afternoon the next day I went up to the room and turned on
the water in the sink and it was very noticably brown! Sort of the color of weak tea. I flushed the toilet and
it filled with the same brown water. The color gradually lightened up and by that night it appeared to be
back to normal. I mentioned it to someone at the hotel and the response was "Huh. Really?" and that was
it.Entertainment in dinner theater is cheezy, but pretty much what I expected. Sort of like kids working the
pool do Las Vegas. That's right, the same people who run activities out by the pool by day are putting
Vegas dance acts by night. This didn't really bother me though, as I wasn't there for the entertainment
and the pool kids were really quite nice people.Location. If you like sit around a resort your entire vacation, this won't be a problem, but if you like to
get away and see/do things it is. The resort is not close to anything (except the beach) and transportation
is not too easy. San Jose del Cabo town center is a mile to a mile and a half away. It's walkable, or you
can take a city bus but they don't run too frequently. If you want to go into Cabo San Lucas, you have to
walk about a half mile to the bus stop. These busses run pretty frequently, but only run until about 8 PM.
Car rental is $70 a day at the hotel and Taxis are very expensive.
