Analysis of a Birth Chart Part 1

Learn how to pull the information from the lessons together.

Revision

This section is a culmination of lessons 1-6. A friend has given his permission to use his chart, with the proviso that it remain anonymous. I will review what you have learnt so far using this chart as the example.

At this point you should understand that what we have covered so far is the basic 'background' information. That is, if I were painting a picture, what we have covered so far is just the basic sketch before any paint is applied. This information will be modified in subsequent lessons.

Example Chart:

Name: Anonymous
Date of Birth: 1st September 1971
Time of Birth: 2:15pm British Summer Time
Place of Birth: Portsmouth, England. 001W06

50N48

Chart Divisions:

It is clear to see that the majority of planets are above the horizon. From this we can suppose that this person's focus on life is on external activities. He will be more noticeably affected by work, his social life, his aims and ambitions, than he would his close family, health or home life.

With the majority of the planets in the eastern horizon, we can see that he is self motivated.

The other thing that is very noticeable in his chart, is the absence of planets in the 2nd quarter. This can indicate a lack of interest in close personal relationship with the nurturing parent, the children and work colleagues, and/or it can show that these areas of life have little impact on him. Few major events will occur in the home, with his hobbies or in mundane work, or at least they wont have a major impact on him.

The absence of planets doesn't mean that this area of life doesn't exist, but that its effect is less striking. As I said before we are just making the basic sketch of the personality. In future lessons we will see how these absent houses will be coloured by there ruling signs and planets.

Divisions Summery:

This person is self motivated. His main focus in life is on activities outside of the home. Major events occurring in his 'personal' life (health, home, children, parents, siblings) will not have a marked impact upon him.

Patterns:

It can take time and experience to recognize the patterns. If in doubt run through the possibilities.
1. Do the planets in the chart create a bowl shape?... not really. (Not Bowl)
2. Do the planets create a bowl shape with a handle?... not really. (Not Basket)
3. Are all the planets within 120 degrees of each other?... no. (Not Bundle)
4. Are they evenly spaced except for 2 or 3 consecutive empty houses?... no. (Not locomotive)

5. Are there two groups of planets, each group covering 90 degrees or less on opposing sides of the chart?... no (Not SeeSaw)
6. Are all the planets within 120 degrees of each other except for one (or two conjunct around the same degree)?... no (Not sling)
7. Are the planets evenly spaced and occupying most of the signs?... no (Not Splash)
8. Are the planets randomly spaced with 3 or more planets in one house? yes...

Splay

He may resent his limitations and any restrictions that are put upon him, he is an individualist. Special notice to be taken of the 9th house (further education, travel, foreigners and attitudes to religion, eternity and boundless space).

Triplicities:
There are 3 things of importance here.
1. The majority of planets are in Earth signs.
2. The Ascendant is Fire.
3. There is only one planet in a water sign.

1. The majority of planets in earth signs shows us that he is basically a practical, material man. He is probably reliable and steady. (Again this will be modified, as the paint goes onto the picture)

2. His outer 'image' (Ascendant) is assertive and dynamic. First impressions count, and his is of a self confident, active individual.

3. The shortage of watery planets can suggest that he isn't particularly nurturing. He may have difficulty empathizing with emotional people and any psychic ability is likely to remain dormant.

Triplicitities Summery:

The first impression on meeting this man is likely to be that he is a self-confident, active and enthusiastic individual. However, on better acquaintance his slower, more steady characteristics will come to the fore. He is a man of the world, his practical common sense is probably well known. However, he may lack sympathy for those of an emotional nature. Perhaps losing his patience with anyone that is emotionally overwrought, he could be incapable of giving comfort, except in a practical manner. He may find it difficult to understand why someone just doesn't get over their emotional problems and get on with their life (its the practical thing to do!).

Quaduplicities

Here we can see that his Qualities are strongly anchored in the Mutable.

From this we know that he is versatile. He copes well with changing situations. He probably puts himself out to get on with other people. He is good at taking orders, picking up ideas and developing them. However, he can be easily distracted and may not always finish what he starts... because something (more interesting) 'comes up' that requires his attention. This can mean that he is likely to be very much affected by those with whom he comes into contact.

House Quaduplicities

With the majority of planets in Cadent houses. He may be a bit of a 'loner'. He will either like to keep a part of his life private or he will often find himself alone.

He doesn't particularly like the limelight, but prefers to remain in the background. He is the sort of person who is sympathetic and sensitive to the needs of others.

You will already have noticed that much of the information about this person is contradictory. Some of it will be modified, however, Astrology teaches us just how complex human beings are. The truth is, we ARE contradictory. People who are peace loving vegetarians can also be serial murderers. Some people that hate being in the limelight, may really shine on stage!

When bringing a chart together, if there are no pointers as to how the contradictory information are assimilated and modified, then these parts of the personality probably coexist. I have observed many charts, and have come to the conclusion that to a certain extent, we all have split personalities.

Summery of the information gathered thus far:

This person is self motivated. His main focus in life is on activities outside of the home. Major events occurring in his 'personal' life (health, home, children, parents, siblings) will not have a marked impact on him. He may resent his limitations and any restrictions that are put on him, he is an individualist. Although he is self motivated, he is easily distracted by those with whom he comes into contact, should they suggest more interesting activities.

The first impression on meeting this man is likely to be that he is a self-confident, active and enthusiastic individual.

However, on better acquaintance his slower, more steady characteristics will come to the fore. He is a man of the world, his practical common sense is probably marked. Although he is sympathetic and sensitive to the needs of others and will give someone a shoulder to cry on, eventually he will raise the question, 'what can you do about your situation?'. He will lose patience with the person if they continue to wallow in self pity for too long without seeking practical solutions. He may also find it difficult to understand why someone just doesn't get over their emotional problems and get on with their life (its the practical thing to do!).

He is versatile and copes well with changing situations. He is good at taking orders, picking up ideas and developing them. However, he is easily distracted, so may not always finish what he starts.

Despite his apparent sociable nature, he is a bit of a 'loner'. He will either like to keep a part of his life private or he will often find himself alone. He doesn't particularly like the limelight, but prefers to remain in the background.

Conclusion:

You will see that I have considered the affects of the contradictory information. Even at this early stage some of the information can be slightly modified.
E.G. strong earth and weak water. Very practical but unemotional and unsympathetic. mutable and cadent. Caring, sympathetic and understanding.

Results Although he is sympathetic and sensitive to the needs of others and will give someone a shoulder to cry on, eventually he will raise the question, (his practical earth will eventually come to the fore) 'what can you do about your situation?'.

He will lose patience with the person if they continue to wallow in self pity (weakness in the water element) for too long without seeking practical solutions. He may also find it difficult to understand why someone doesn't get over their emotional problems and get on with their life (its the practical thing to do!).
