Live Review - Deicide, Arkhon Infaustus and Relevant Few.
(Gävle 041121)
Sunday afternoon. I´m cold and basically feel like shit, due to heavy alcohol consumption the night before. On my way to my mothers i spot a huge bus parked in front of the local club Nivå. As i walk past it, a kind of odd-looking person observes me and i wonder "who was that guy?" Since know most of the people around here that would have long hair and camo-pants, i think for a minute and then realize it´s a show happening tonight and he must be here to see it. (The man would later appear to be the drummer of Arkhon Infaustus, who wore sunglasses during the whole set) After thinking it over(?) and taking in concideration that i most likely will not be able to pay my rent if i spend any more money, i decided to attend the show.
After having spent about two hours of drinking beer and catching up on Deicide records at home,i walk over to a friend´s apartment to meet up with a few people for the show. We all get there about ten in the evening, i pay the entering fee, which was too high by the way, and we stand around waiting for my spoiled friends to be recognized as grindcore band Gadget, and get in for free. The first thing i see inside is a swarm of people trying to hog up on Glenn Benton´s attention. Glenn sits there with a satisfied smile on his lips, writing autographs and chatting with the surrounding crowd. I´m standing there with my friends and suddenly someone screams "Get the fuck out of here, you fucking piece of shiiiiit!" I spin around and see one of the local security guards walking away from Benton with a somewhat scared look on his face, mubling something in a nervous tone of voice. After this unexpected, yet amusing display of authority-person harrassment, my friends finally get in and we all go for a beer.
A couple of beers and some chatting later, it´s time for relevant Few to enter the stage. A not too big crowd gathers in front of the stage, and the grinding begins. It´s as tight, crushing and entertaining as it was last time i saw them, but this time the sound wasn´t as good. The show had perfect length and a good choice of songs. Continueos taunting from the audience, with a good response from the singer made it all an enjoyable experience.
An hour, more or less, was passed by drinking beers and trying to sell EPs to numerous people. After that, Arkhon Infaustus started playing and i saw as many disapointed as happy faces among the people in the crowd. There were quite a diversity of people in the audience this evening, although most of them seemed to be into mainly black and death metal. I found AI´s music kinda boring, since it had little variation and just wasn´t my cup of tea. I actually didn´t catch much of their show so you´ll just have to do without a review...
Moving on. Everyone was here to see Deicide and to have a good time. Glenn Benton gave us both at the same time. They started off hard and kept it that way through the entire show. Almost every classic, such as "Dead but dreaming", "Biblebasher", "Dead by dawn", "Serpents of the light" and "Sacrificial suicide" were played with excellent performance. The Hoffman brothers were abscent this time, and were filled in by ex-Cannibal Corpse´s Jack Owen and a guy from Vital Remains, who both did an outstanding job. One thing that really made this show fun was Glenn´s continueos Joking, talking about his dick going limb, Calling the audience "Ding-dongs" And handing out a bottle of Jack Daniel´s to the people in the front. This must have been an exceptionary Deicide show or something, because every live review of them i´ve read has been bad.....
Well, the show was over and i had sold four of the ten EP´s i had brought. I headed for home quite pleased with the evening.
