The Boston Celtics has won sixteen NBA championships being the only team to win maximum championships in the history of the NBA. The Celtics were founded on June 6, 1946 and the team's home stadium is FleetCenter in Boston . Earlier the team used to play at Boston Garden . Led by Bill Russell, the Celtics won eight consecutive championships from 1959 to 1966. The team has played against the Los Angeles Lakers ten times in the NBA Finals and is famous for intense rivalries in professional basketball. Los Angeles Lakers is a National Basketball team founded in 1947 and was earlier known as Minneapolis Lakers (1947-60). The Lakers have posted the highest number of wins with more 2621 games won, the highest winning percentage- 61.9%, the maximum number of finals appearances -28 and winning the second highest championships– 14.
 
 

The Boston Celtics had players like forward Kevin McHale, center Robert Parish, and three-time NBA most valuable player (MVP), forward Larry Bird. During his college says, Bird had led his college team to the NCAA finals but lost the classic 1979 title game to Magic Johnson's Michigan State team. Bird was drafted to Celtics and was the NBA Rookie of The Year in 1980 leading the team from 29 wins to 61 wins. Lakers, Magic Johnson also won the title that year. But the following year Bird led the Celtics to Championship number 14. At this time the rivalry of Bird vs. Magic, and the Celtics vs. the Lakers began again. During the 1980s K.C. Jones was the head coach of Lakers and under his guidance the Celtics won three NBA championships against the Lakers from 1984 through 1987. But the Boston Celtics lost to the Lakers in the 1985 NBA Finals. Larry Bird took his retirement before the start of the 1992- 93 season. In 2003, the Boston Celtics once again played against Los Angeles Lakers.
