A Letter To Kai

Darling Kai,
It's been so hard since since you left us all,
And went to play with the Angels.
We miss you, and think of you everyday.
It feels so strange that you are not here,
When we all know that you should be.
I want you to know that however many
Brothers and Sisters you get,
None of them will ever replace you.
You were my First Born,
My beautiful blue-eyed baby boy,
And always will be.
There will never be another Little Kai-Man.
You were, you are, unique,
The only one.
All my love,
Mummy.

Kai's Story

On 23rd September 2000 Kai Andrew James Hirsh was born early,
Weighing a tiny 4lb 11ozs.
He was put into the special care unit for 2 weeks,
Where he grew stronger and recovered well.
He was allowed home on 7th October 2000.
Kai was a beautiful baby, and when he learnt how to smile he never stopped,
And everyone who met him, fell in love with him.
When Kai was born I felt my life was complete.
I imagined myself watching him learn to crawl,
And applauding his first wobbly steps.
Unfortunately that never happened, because on the 11th of February 2001,
Kai died, a victim of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. (S.I.D.S)
The worst thing is, no-one can tell me why.
The study into S.I.D.S and what causes cot death is still going on.
I can only hope that one day someone will find the reason why,
And a way to prevent it,
And at last, I will know why my beautiful, healthy baby,
Was taken away from Me, my husband Col,
And Kai's sisters, Natalie, Jenny and Sami.

Sweet Child O' Mine

He's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see his face
He takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long
I'd probably break down and cry
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
~~~~
He's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
His hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
~~~~
Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child o' mine
