    my tribute to the 80's

"Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals ... except the weasel." - Homer Simpson

the trick is to use garbage to build the robots, that way they are cheap. p>

Later: (almost a year,) i am so fed up with the lousey job people do when it comes to BEAM related web sites. get with it people.

later (almost a year again) wow, i am no better than them. at least i write something new each year however...

Later (yet another year) i think im getting back into this stuff.... yea.... and remember kids, don't hit the bong.

…later (nother year) i have had luck using power wheels gear motors for a 3 degrees of freedom robot arm. two motors are mouned in the center of a recangular bracket and operate the above and below joints via levers. the whole arm is bolted to the axel of a bicycle wheel which rests on two platforms and provides stability. the third motor is attatched to the underside of the axel and is anchored to the two platforms. (picture soon) I have been trying to use large AC transformers and triacs to control the massive amount of amperage nessesary to drive these motors and have achieved minimal success due to the need of the triacs to be isolated optically from the accual control circuitry. However I did get full control with a basic stamp and a solid state relay (the relay is a triac with an opto-isolator contained in one 4 lead package) i got the relay from Radio Shack, but it probably will not be able to handle the stalled motor current (greater than 10 amps and probably closer to 20)

Hey yall i am in desperate need of a digital camera! this is my face smashed in a scanner^
