The Betrayal of Dot Matrix

Dot covered a yawn with her hand. She had told the others there were things she needed to do, but that had been a lie. She was actually waiting. She so hoped it would come tonight.
She spun her chair away from her terminal and stood up. She slowly walked over to a couch they had moved into the Principal’s Office because Dot had been working late lately. She curled up on the couch, closing her eyes.
Dot awoke less than a micro later to a beeping sound that emanated from her terminal. She fell off the couch in her hurried attempt to stand. She got on her knees and lunged to the terminal, banging her elbow hard on the desk.
She leaned against her terminal and took a deep breath. She pushed a button and then rubbed her elbow. Her face broke out into a smile as she read what appeared on her screen.
Calming herself she sat down at the terminal. She pulled up a program. Slowly, she began to hack into it the way Mouse had shown her during their war with Megabyte. The work went slow, but she did everything precise.
After what seemed like seconds later, Dot closed the program. She couldn’t stop herself from smiling. ‘He’s back! Finally, he’s back!’ She chanted over and over again in her mind.
Still smiling, she stood up and walked over to the couch. She pulled a blanket out from underneath one of the cushions and curled up on the couch.

She walked quietly through the darkened streets and alleyways of Level 31. Her green hair shimmered in the darkness. She cringed as her boot heel made a crunching sound on the ground.
She had significantly calmed down since her last night shift in the Principle Office. She had, for once, shown a portion of the energy that simmered beneath her cool green exterior. She smiled to herself as she thought of what she had been like at Enzo’s age.
She frowned after that, her mind once again wondering at the changes that had taken place to her brother while he had been lost on the Net. She still didn’t know the whole story, no one had time to tell her.
No one had much time for anything lately. They were all preparing for attacks from Daemon of Megabyte returning.
‘If only they knew.’ Dot thought to herself. ‘If only they truly knew.’
In some ways she felt very guilty for what she was doing. She had been born in Mainframe, her father and mother had worked in Twin City. But this went far deeper than blood or loyalty.
There had been a reason the rebels had almost lost to Megabyte during the war. None of them had even suspected her. Not even the tiniest bit. That amazed her, that they could trust her so much. It made the guilt that already weighed down on her mind heavier.
But Dot had made her decision a long time ago, before the guardian had come, before the web world wars, before her brother had left. Her decision was made and she was sticking to it.
When it had seemed Megabyte would never stop trying to conquer Mainframe, she had made a deal with him. He could have conquered them so many times before Bo and come. If he hadn’t come, Megabyte would probably be ruler of Mainframe.
But he had come, the guardian had come and ruined it all. There was so many times while Bob was there that Megabyte had accused her of being swayed by the guardian. He had been wrong, of course, but had never apologized. Megabyte never apologized.
After the guardian had been taken care of, they held up the charade. Dot still felt oddly loyal to Mainframe and refused to let him infect them quite yet. But when Enzo had been guardian, it had placed so much strain on her.
She was better, now. He was back and she had decided that it was time. Time to end all charades, to reveal all secrets, and to show the other players that she carried a royal flush...in spades.
