Three important reasons to adopt a vegan lifestyle . . .

"It is my view that the vegetarian manner of living, by it's purely physical effect on the human temperament, would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind." Albert Einstein

The Pain

The sad part about a grocery store is that pictures of factory farms aren't posted next to poultry, dairy, and meat products. More than 90% of farmed animals in the U.S. are raised in these corporate farms. To obtain a profitable income, factory farms are unnaturally overcrowed, which leads to a large number of animals deaths. Because animals are immobile, they gain weight which is good for the factory and good for the omnivore, but the animals suffer. Animals are kept in windowless buildings and recieve no bedding. Many diseases are spread throughout the farm from many different causes. Numerous procedures (castration, branding, dehorning, etc.) cause acute pain for days, done without anesthesia of course for the factorys profit, by far the main priority. Being locked down, animals build aggression and fight or hurt themselves. Cows are killed once they are out of their milk producing prime, so their life is drastically shortened just because they can't cooperate with man. Cows are given a growth hormone which often causes mastitis (an udder infection). Chickens are greatly confined to uncomfortable, growth impeding, battery cages. The manure that is built up underneath them burns their eyes and sometimes leads to blindness, because of the ammonia. Chickens beaks are cut off with a hot knife because the birds peck at each other. Chickens are often diagnosed with lameness, bone brittleness, osteoporosis, and muscle weakness due to their wire-floored cages. Chickens are starved for 18 days to shock them into an egg-laying cycle. Roosters that are born in factorys are brutally killed because they have no capital use. Animals that are transported are cramped and live in each others excretement. They are exposed to extreme weather conditions. Some animals are frozen to the floor, walls, or manure.

"The question is not, can they reason? nor, can they talk? but, Can They Suffer?" Jeremy Bentham

The Consumption

Feeding plants to animals and eating animals wastes energy, water, pesticides, and land. An acre of land can produce 40,000 lbs. of potatoes compared to 250lbs. of beef. More than 70% of the U.S. grain harvest is fed to farmed animals, if it was fed to humans a lot of food would cost a lot less. A farm in Utah will put out more waste than the entire city of Los Angeles. Many forests are cleared just so cows can be raised, deforestation is greatly due to farmers.

"The unnatural eating of flesh meats is as polluting as the heathen worship of devils, with its sacrifices and its impure feasts, through participation in it man becomes a fellow eater with devils." St. Peter

Your Health

Plant food protects against cancer. Plant nutrients inhibit cancer in many ways compared to meats that raise the risk of cancer. Vegetarians have lower death rates of cancer. Heart disease is linked to animal food and processed food diets. Vegetarian diets can treat and reverse heart disease. Your arteries are super healthy with a vegetarian diet. Your fat and cholesterol intake is greatly lowered ommitting dairy and meat products from your diet. Also be warned that you can get Salmonella, E. coli, and other bacterial contamination from animal products, which can be fatal in children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and the aged. The conservative estimate is that bad chicken kills at least 1,000 Americans each year.

"See that you do not make your minds heavy, to do this, never eat meat or drink wine." Jesus Luke 21:34

Conclusion

In conclusion . . . Is it really possible to be 100% vegan? Well, it's not too likely as of yet. There are so many unavoidable animal products that you really can't get around, but the more you do avoid the better. To become vegan you don't have to rush off and throw all your wool and leather away . . . just vow not to buy anymore. It's not hard to ease your way into veganism, just make an aimable goal to stop cruelty and suffering as much as you can by what ever means you are willing to take. The more vegans there are the better the access to vegan products will be, with lower prices too! Direct Action Gets The Goods!

"If you assume that there's no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, there are opportunities to change things, there's a chance you may contribute to making a better world. That's your choice." Noam Chomsky
