How many times have you ever been skating or biking at a local spot and somebody walks or drives by and gives you a dirty look? How many times have you gotten kicked out of places for skating or biking because "you're damaging private property?" People see kids wearing baggy pants, having different color hair and hairstyles, maybe a couple of piercings, a skateboard or a bike or a pair of inline skates, a shirt with an unfamiliar logo on it and listening to unfamiliar music and they label us as "nuisances!" Isn't it always the parents and the adults saying that it's what's on the inside that counts and that appearance isn't everything? So why do they tell us kids that and then they contradict themselves by stereotyping us skaters and bikers?!!? Makes NO sense, right?
So what if we're different, WHO cares!! We wear and do what we like! We are not "nuisances" out to damage property or wreak havoc, we're just kids that are out to have a good time and for us that's skating or riding a bike! What the adults never see, or overlook, is how us "nuisances" cheer each other on and congratulate each other when we do a new trick!
We're different from all of the other mummafied-zombie kids of our time and that scares our society, we're different! Society is not ready for change and that's not our fault. It's time our nation woke up and recognizes us "nuisances" NOT as "nuisances" any longer but as a growing population of our time! We're here to stay regardless if society is NOT prepared! We are NOT criminals, well most of us aren't anyway, we are just a group of kids that have a bad reputation. All we want is for society to start showing us some respect for what we do instead of hassling us about it!
Inline skating, skateboarding, BMX riding and all other extreme sports are as much of a sport as football or basketball or baseball, if not more of a sport! Do the adults not realize that there are more fights and accidents during a KIDS football or basketball game than at skating competitions? Kids fighting kids, parents fighting parents, parents fighting officials, kids fighting officials, it's DISGUSTING!! Yet these sports get shown the respect that they want to receive! Our society is ASS-BACKWARDS! Before I finish, let me ask everybody one question, how many times have you ever heard or seen a story on the news about a skateboarder or an inline skater or a BMX rider getting into a fight with another competitor or a judge? I know what my answer is; NEVER!!
START SHOWING US SOME
RESPECT!
F*CK STEREOTYPING!
Keep it REAL!
Peace,
Tim
