The first hour exam is scheduled for Monday, 4 October 1999,
in ARC 333 (the lecture room). It
will be composed of three parts:
PART I - Multiple Choice consisting of 12 questions worth 0.33
pts @, covering such topics as:
habitat, types of cells, function of sensory "organs", comparison of
taxonomic groups,
polymorphism in protists, movement in ciliates, dispersal mechanisms.
PART II - Short Answer consisting of 14 questions worth 0.5
pts @, covering such topics as:
movement in scyphozoans, toxic phytoflagellates, habitat, anthozoan
structure, polyp types,
cnidarian skeletal elements, hexactinellid sponges, cnidae, pseudopodia.
PART III - Word Match consisting of 12 parts worth 0.33 pts
@. covering such topics as: unique
characteristics of phyla (see Boxes in reading list), structural differences,
overwintering stages,
body organization, defense mechanisms, and life cycles.
Most of the questions on this exam will be based on material derived
from the lectures, and from
the reading suggestions. If you have any questions, please see
