Wireless Networking

PC - Radio Interface

ABSTRACT

Several companies develop radio modems that are compatible to their existing radio network alone. An attempt is being made to remove this incompatibility between radio systems in a wireless network by developing a radio modem which can be used with any radio that follow certain specifications. The radio modems being developed communicate with each other using a generic protocol.

The Radio Modem essentially includes an Intel 8031 microcontroller and the nessessary components. The main functions of the modem are as follows

All the above functionalities are to be implemeted in firmware on the 8031 micro-controller.The output of the modem is an audio signal of range 300 Hz - 3kHz. Hence the radio should be able to handle any audio signal in this range. The modulation scheme and the transmitting  frequency of the radio is not our concern. The range of transmission solely depends on the strength of the power amplifier of the radio.

The communcation routines coded in C/C++ will be made available to the user as library files. The user can create his own applications using the primitives. At compile time, these library files have to be included.
