But I will sing of your might; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been a fortress for me and a refuge in the day of my distress. - Psalms 59: 16

"The lamp from the towering lighthouse chases away the darkness and floods the area with light. Though the lighthouse itself is firmly anchored in its place of prominence in the harbor, the beam is arways in motion, illuminating the waters as it passes from one side of the harbor to the other.

God is like the lighthouse on the hill, never changing, always there. But the light of His love is always moving, searching the waters, reaching out to those who are distressed and need to find refuge in the harbor."

In 1992, while on an airplane leaving Seattle, I was seated in the isle seat, on the two seat side of the plane. The window seat next to me was still empty. I was setting back in the seat with my eyes shut when I heard someone say... ''Excuse me mam." I opened my eyes and there was Janet. O, sorry, I was just helping an elderly lady on to the plane and still had her on my mind. Janet had been visiting with her daughter in Tacoma, Washington and was returning home to Ohio. That is how we met and I continued to tease about the ''excuse me mam'' for the next 8-1/2 years.

On March 23, 2001 Janet died of Pancreatic Cancer while we were on an Alaska Airlines flight returning to our home in Alaska. Janet had been staying with her daughter in Tacoma, Washington while receiving treatments in Seattle.

I thank God for the time Janet and I shared here on earth. They are years I will always treasure.
