PHOENIX (BS) - The Obama administration plans to announce Tuesday that it will send as many as 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to improve border security, an Arizona congresswoman said. Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords also said in a statement released Tuesday that President Barack Obama will request $500 million in funding for border security.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer's spokesman said the governor hadn't been told of the move prior to her office being contacted by The Associated Press and had no immediate comment.
In 2006, President George W. Bush sent thousands of troops to the border. The troops wouldn't perform significant law enforcement duties.
There will be 4 assigned to each of 300 new Welcome Centers. Troops will be there to put water bottles in the desert for illegals crossing the border, handing out box lunches, gallon jugs of water, and maps showing where all the water tank locations are in the desert? Obama's troops will be handing out ACLU business cards, and Democrat Party voter registration cards to the newcomers.
National Guard troops have been on the border before. With no ammunition, no authority, and orders not to start any trouble.
Last time local news proudly reported that all the troops were allowed to do was “observe”. It may be cheaper to send summer school kids down there to count illegals coming across.
Troops will be busy hanging out around the pool at the Tucson Doubletree during the week, and then cross over the border to party with Mexican senoritas on the weekends.
