Reverse Engineering of Shoe Last

This project was carried out for Super House Tanneries, Kanpur.

In this project given shoe last was scanned in multiple scans. In the first scan it was glued from the bottom and top portion of the shoe last was scanned. In the next scan it was glued from the top and bottom portion was scanned. Spherical probe of diameter 0.25" was used for scanning in both the cases. To register both the point clouds, three common curves were scanned in both the scans. The point cloud of the shoe last is shown in Figure 4.2(a). These common curves were scanned using point probe. For registration both files were opened in the same viewport and with the help of common curves registration was completed. Before starting surface generation, points that were scanned using spherical probe were offseted by a distance of 0.125", which is equal to the radius of spherical probe.

Now surfaces were generated on the whole point cloud data. Figure 4.2(b) shows the point cloud with wireframe surface model. In Figure 4.2(c) wire frame surface model is given. Rendered surface model is given in Figure 4.2(d). This was a good example of synthetic surfaces. About all the surfaces it was having were doubly curved surfaces.
