The present work highlights the applications of Reverse Engineering in different areas. In Reverse Engineering the information is derived from a physical object. Many times manufacturing firms wish to reproduce a part for which an engineering drawing does not exist. In such situations, it is necessary to digitize the existing component as a first step. Once the part is digitized, the data can be used

• as an input to CAD/CAM system for the generation of a necessary tool path in reproducing the part.
• as an input to CAD software to generate the surface model later to a solid model.
• as an input to CAD software for CAD to Part inspection i.e. comparison of CAD model and actual product.
• as an input to Rapid Prototyping machines to generate a prototype.
