This project was carried out for Kirlosker Brothers Limited, Pune.
An impeller was given and CAD model of that impeller was the to be generated. For this project, first fixtures were designed to hold the component, and then four blades and hub of the impeller were scanned with the help of FARO arm. Spherical probe of diameter 0.125" was used for scanning. For scanning boundary points, point probe was used. Points, which were scanned using spherical probe, were offsetted by a distance of 0.0625", which is equal to the radius of spherical probe. Figure 4.1(a) shows the scanned data cloud.
Surface generation was done using Imageware's SURFACER software. This model was having mainly analytic surfaces, i.e. plane surfaces and cylindrical surfaces. Rest of the blades were copied and rotated to get the full CAD model of the impeller. Figure 4.1(b) shows the point cloud with wire frame surface model. In Figure 4.1(c) wire frame surface model is shown. Rendered surface model is shown in Figure 4.1(d).
To convert this surface model of impeller into solid model, it was exported
to ProEngineer/20 and was stitched keeping positional continuity with the
tolerance of 0.05 mm.
