My name is Jesse,I can't tell you my last name or where I live and all that, it would endanger my life,and my life is endangered enough already.I fought in the yeerk pool and in an Andalite fighter three days ago.I'm getting ahead of myself,I should explain a few things. I'm not exactly normal anymore,I can turn into animals.I have to absorb the animals DNA first.An Andalite,Ax,gave me and six other kids the power to morph.There are nine of us,Jahar and Ax,who are Andalites,and Kelly,Steff, Joel,Eric,Laura,Tobias,and me.Actually there is one more,Marco.He ran away awhile ago,he might have been captured,or killed,we didn't know.We fight to save Earth,we fight the yeerks.They are alien slugs,parasites who infests sentient species,like humans,Hork-Bajiir,and Taxxons.The yeerks have infested more species than that though.I think this whole thing is pretty cool,I mean, before this my life was so normal ,so boring. I like the fighting as much as the morphing.Don't get me wrong,I'm mostly a nice guy,I don't go around pounding people,I just like the thought that I'm helping people.I don't have too many morphs,not yet.I have a tiger morph,a cheetah,a gorilla,a red tailed hawk,and a fly.I talked Joel and Kelly into going to the gardens with me to acquire new morphs.Joel is my best friend,and I sorta like Kelly,not that I'd ever tell her that.The last time we had gone to acquire animals it had been a total disaster,Jen had died.We went to the dolphin habitat and acquired one each,that was easy.Then we went to the Raptor habitat,that means like hawks and stuff,just incase you don't know.I acquired a peregrine Falcon, and a Golden Eagle,so did the others.Except Kelly got a Bald Eagle.Then we decided to get a cougar morph,not exactly a good idea,they hadn't been fed in awhile.
In the cougar habitat there were some trees,a river,and fake mountains.It was pretty cool.There were only two cougars in the habitat,they were sleeping. "Piece of cake"Joel said.We crept up to them,I acquired what I think was a male.While I was acquiring it it's eyes snapped open."Uhh guys?He isn't going into a trance." "Stop fooling around Jesse"Kelly said. "Head for the exit,slowly."They saw the cougar get up,he looked at us like we were dinner.We backed toward the door,then it charged!We turned and ran.Jole was the slowest out of the three of us,when we were near the door I heard a rip. We got out and slammed the door shut.Then I looked at Joel,his pants were gone. "Joel,look down."He did. "Aaah my pants!"Kelly and I burst out laughing.Joel had to fly home,he couldn't exactly take the bus.
When we got home I asked Kelly if she wanted to go flying,she said sure.We morphed red tailed hawks.Morphing is strange,you grow or shrink,bones change as well as organs. The hawk morph is really excellent,it has awesome vision and is a good flyer, it hardly has to flap,it mostl glides.We headed toward the mountains,I wanted to see them anyways. When we were up in the mountains I noticed awhole bunch of trucks below us filled with strange equipment.< Kelly,check that out down there. >I looked for Hork-Bajiir and Taxxons, but it was just humans,that didn't mean they were yeerks. They stopped at a mountain wall,dead end.But then they put a device on the rock wall and backed up,the wall exploded. And then I could see inside,it looked like a mine.Inside were support beams and the walls were rock and dirt.I saw a small piece of some sort of crystal on the ground,looked in the shape of a diamond but it was purple in colour, the yeerks didn't seem interested,that's what they were,no one else would have a bomb like the one they had just used.I overheard a man say"Find the big crystal,we needed it for the weapon."
I swooped down when all the men had gone inside,I grabbed the little crystal with my talons,and we flew as fast as we could to where Ax lived.When we got there I dropped down exhausted.Then I demorphed."Ax,we were up in the mountains! There were yeerks up there,in a mine,they said they were looking for a big crystal to use for a weapon! I think it's like this."I showed him the crystal. < Jahar has a hidden fighter near here,it was one that was shot down,it can't fly but I want to scan this on the computer. >I nodded,Ax ran off,Jahar was at the fighter I think.I think Ax has a thing for her.I got to the ship as fast as I could with Kelly and Tobias,the others weren't around.When we got there Ax was waiting for us. < The enrgy readings on this are of the scale!I wonder how the Yeerks found out about these crystals.We have to stop them,if they create a weapon from them they will go to the Andalite home world and destroy it. > "Thanks for taking all that pressure off of us Ax"Kelly said sarcastically.
We gathered everyone for a meeting,and we told them about the mission,Laura groaned,she wasn't really into this Animorph thing,but she wouldn't quit.The others actually were glad about what had happened,I could tell."We need a morph that humans would expect to see in a mine,any ideas?"I asked."Bats,we need bat morphs.Ax and Tobias have one,the rest of us need a bat morph."So we went to the zoo,and got a bat morph,the next day was Sunday,we would do it then.I had stuff to do with my family then,it was father son bonding night thing.He gave me a little bit of beer,we watched football,then after we played poker.I won ten bucks off of him,it was my lucky night.That night I had nightmares of worlds being blown up,including Earth.And the yeerks caught and killed the people I cared about.I woke up sweating,I was worried about tommorrow,I had a good reason to be.
We met in the woods were Ax,Tobias,and Jahar lived. We morphed one at a time,I would go first,then after ten minutes someone else would come,then after ten more minutes someone else,you get the idea.I morphed the Golden Eagle for the first time.When I morphed it I could control it fine, it was like the hawks's mind,but I felt powerful,unafraid.A Golden Eagle is like the size of a Bald Eagle,or bigger. I read in a book that a Golden Eagle will attack a injured dear,pretty impressive huh?I flew to the mountains and demorphed.Over an hour later everyone was there,then we morphed into bats.A webbing went from my wrists to my arm,it felt like leather.My ears moved to the top of my head,brown fur sprouted all over me.And I shrunk.When I was done the bat wanted out of the light,I wanted to go into the cave anyway.Once inside we split off into two groups,Jahar, Eric, Kelly,Steff,and me were in one group,we took the tunnel heading to the right, the others took the left.We kept echolating so we could "see",it showed a brief flash of your surroundings,it was like opening your eyes for a second,then closing them.When I echolated again I saw in the center of the room,tons of men,drilling a purple crystal from a wall. The crystal.
We tried thought speech to the other group,but they were out of range.< Now
what? >Steff asked.What,like someone else was supposed to decide?< Don't know
,what do you think Jesse? >Kelly asked.I should have said we'll come back
later,but I didn't want her to think I was a wimp.So I said
< Go back outside,demorph,morph into something dangerous,then attack. >We
flew back outside,then demorphed.We rested for ten minutes,too much morphing
wears you out.Then I morphed into my tiger morph,so did Steff,we had both
morphed the same tiger.Kelly turned into an alligator,Jahar stayed herself,
and Ax went Grizzly.The tiger was a favourite morph of mine,you felt so
powerful when you morphed it.White fur spread over me,then came the black
stripes,then the wicked claws.I wished I had never made the decision to stay
and fight,it was the worst decision I would ever make in my life.
We ran in,just charged in.The men froze when they saw us,then they started to
run deeper into the mine,or some of them pulled out Dracon guns and started
shooting at us.Some beams skinned and singged my fur on my back.I showed
the men no mercy,I killed any that came close to me,the same with the others
.Soon almost all the men were dead,Eric was injured,a hole had put a hole in
his shoulder.The remaining men ran out of the cave,we let them go.Then I
heard Ax talking to us,he was far away,I could barely hear him.< We've all
been captured in bat morph,a net was thrown over us,we need help. >The
others heard it too.
< Great. >Steff said.
< Ax,hang in there,we're on our way. >Then with my excellent hearing I
.heard a far off noise getting louder.Steff's tiger face looked at me.
< What's that noise? >Slowly I recognized it,helicopters,and I had a
pretty good idea what was in them.Seven feet tall,death on legs.Blades all
over there bodies,Hork-Bajiir.
< We have to destoy the crystal! >I said.
< Not enough time to demorph! >Eric said.I knew he was right.Then I
noticed the entrance we had come in was closed by a metal wall that had
slid down.Now that metal wall opened.With my excellent eye sight I could
see them behind the door,there was thirty Hork-Bajiir.I had screwed up
big time.
< How many Hork-Bajiir? >Eric asked.Bears have bad eye sight.< You don't
want to know Eric. >The door had now slid open entirely.
They just stood there for a second.So did we.Then at the same time we
charged.I took one down and ripped his throat out,but I was being slashed
from all sides,there was no way we could win.I retreated a little.Eric
just went in aswinging,he tossed the Hork-Bajiir around as if they were
rag dolls.Then they all pounced on him.Kelly was close,she bit a
Hork-Bajiir in half.Alligators can kill sharks you know.But right then
I didn't care.I pounced into the middle,I saw Eric and Jahar were knocked
out.There were twenty Hork-Bajiir left,against three of us,a tiger,another
tiger,and an alligator.
Five Hork-Bajiir left the cave,carrying Jahar and Eric with them.
There were fifteen to take still.Three Hork-Bajiir ran after me,I ran
towards a wall away from them.When they were behind me I lept at the
wall,spun around and pushed off.I hit the middle Hork-Bajiir down,he
hit the floor so hard he was knocked out.I pounced on another one,and
bit his throat,then I did the same to the other.
Then I saw that Steff had been caught,I caught a glimse of her being
dragged out of the cave.There was ten against two now,there was no
chance that we could beat them at all.We had to retreat,but what was the
point?Everyone else was captured.Well,at least one of us had to get out,
if not,Earth was doomed.But if one of us got out we could give the power
to morph to other kids.I knew where the morphing cube was,Ax had told me
earlier.I had to get out.
I told Kelly to head for the door,alligators are suprisingly fast when
they want to be.As she headed for the door the door started to close.
Kelly went right through their legs,they weren't expecting it,she was out!
I ran for the door,the Hork-Bajiir were in my way!I lept right over them!I
ran as fast as I could,I was almost there!I wasn't going to make it!I
leapt!Half of me got out,then the door closed on my back,I was ripped
in half by the sharp bottom.I demorphed as quickly as I could,I was
loosing blood fast.Luckily
My legs came in first,and the bleeding stopped.Soon I was lying on the
ground,human.Kelly had demorphed,she sadly looked at me.
"Go ahead,say it.It's my fault."
"No it's not Jesse.Don't you see?Whoever it was would have went after the
crystal,they wouldn't want to risk the yeerks getting it.
It's not your fault."She was right,but that didn't matter,I had made the
decision.It was my fault.Then the door started to open.
We morphed birds as fast as we could,we did the peregrine falcon morph.
Then we flew off the mountain and dived straight down the mountain at a
hundread and seventy miles an hour while Hork-Bajiir
fired Dracon beams at us.But we got away,unharmed.I saw a bug fighter l
and,my friends were loaded on,then it took off.Then another big fighter
landed,the crystal was loaded onto it.Then it took off.If me morphed Ax,
we could fix the Andalite fighter,but then we had to go after the crystal,
or my friends.I had to decided,fast.What was more important?A entire race?
Or my friends?
