My name is Stefanie,my friends call me Steff.I can't tell you my last name or where I live,because I have deadly enemies.Yeerks, alien parasites.They take over your mind,your body.They are way more powerful than humans.Me and some friends joined what remained of the Animorphs,one of the original Animorphs died and two were captured,Jake and Rachel.They were Visser's now. I don't want to tell you my last name because I'm scared the Yeerks will find me.You think you know fear?Well you don't,not like I do.There are ten of us, seven of us are new,and we only had one morph. Marco,Tobias,and Ax are part of the original team.Marco is the only normal one,Tobias is a hawk that used to be human and Ax is and Andalite,an alien.Me,Joel,Kelly,and Eric were at Jesse's house. Since we only had one morph,we decided we needed a variety of things to morph. We were at Jesse's house for a reason,his dad had pigeons.We were going to acquire them.
I held a blue bar pied in my hand,that's what Jesse said it was.I began to acquire it.It was grey,with two bars on each wing and some white on it's face.Jesse had a black and white one,Kelly had a white one,Joel and Eric had two checks.When we had each acquired them we morphed,Jesse's parents weren't home so we were safe.When we were done morphing I could feel it's instincts.It didn't have many.I had morphed a mom,she wanted to go take care of her babies. I felt hunger,but it wasn't an insane hunger.I didn't feel any fear, I was in my home,there were only other pigeons.I also had no trouble controlling it.I also wanted to fly,me and the pigeon.You see,when you morph an animal your brain is in there but so is it's instincts. We took off,right out the door!We flapped until we got high up.Pigeons don't glide,they flap.It was not too hard to fly,pigeons are used to flying long distances.That's why Jesse's dad had them,to race them.I don't care what anyone says,there is nothing,nothing better than flying.You up with the clouds,feeling the breeze.Suddenly a shadow swept over us,the pigeon was afraid now,it knew what it was.It was an hawk,and hawks love to eat pigeons.
It swooped down!We dodged!It came back again,this time it got me. < Aaahhh! >I screamed as the talons ripped into my back.I was done for ,I'd die a pigeon,just because I wanted to fly.TheRed Tail landed with me in a field,I was toast.But then the others dived in and clawed at it's eyes,the hawk looked scared,if that was possible. Pigeons weren't supposed to attack hawks.Anyway,they blinded him. He fell off me and I demorphed along with the others.Jesse picked up the hawk,it went limp."Jesse,why are you acquiring that!It almost killed me!" "Well,for one thing,we won't have to worry about predators,hawks don't have like any predatrs."It did make sense. We all acquired it.But after it died,I felt bad even though it almost killed me.We met later with the others,everyone was there except Marco. He had run away a week ago,when we had gone into the yeerk pool.I guess he couldn't take it anymore.But he'd be back, maybe.At the meeting Tobias had something important to say.He had called the meeting."What's up Tobias?"I asked.Tobias was in human morph.He had explained that he'd been trapped as a hawk but then given the power to morph again by an Ellimist.The Ellimist took him back in time and he acquired himself.Confusing,huh? "Ax,you might know what it is.I was flying around,a few miles from here looking for Marco,and in the woods there was a huge dome,it looked just like the dome we found you in except this thing can't fly,it was built right on the ground.I think it's an Andalite base."
An Andalite base,here on Earth.That meant we wouldn't have to fight anymore, I said exactly that.But secretly I wanted to keep on fighting,I think most of the others felt the same.< An Andalite base!It can't be!I never heard of it.If there is why haven't we heard about them attacking the yeerks before? > "I think I've got it!When we first went in with Rachel,Marco,Jake, and Cassie the Visser called us Andalite bandits,maybe they attacked before us.Maybe they think we're the same"Tobias said. "When we going?"Eric asked. "This Saturday,but you guys need more morphs"Tobias said. "And get something small too." "Like what?"Laura asked. "Like a fly."I felt sick,I did not want to morph a fly.You probably know where they hang out at?Poop is the answer to that.I shuddered. Well,Jesse,Joel,Laura,Eric,Jen,Kelly,and me went to The Animal Kindom, the zoo near our place.We biked there,it took an hour. When we were there Jesse said"Split up so we can cover more ground."I didn't know who to go with,none of us really knew each other,the girls knew the girls and the guys knew the guys.So I went with Kelly,Laura ,and Jen.The guys went off together.What should we get?"I asked."I want to get a bird morph"Jen said.She didn't have one yet."How about the rest of us get a jaguar?"I asked.It sound like no problem,at the time.
In the jaguar habitat there were jungle plants and a water fall,we didn't see any jaguars.In the water fall there were also crocidiles. We were looking everywhere,but up.We were near a big tree when I heard scraping,I looked up.There were about ten of them in the tree,sleeping ,but they were waking up.Wefroze as two lept down,the others continued to sleep.They went after me,and Laura. They had us cornered at the river."Run Kelly!"I said,she ran out of the habitat.We had no choice,no time to morph,only to jump into the river.That's what we did.The brown murky water was warm.Actually,the crocs were below this river,the river lead to a water fall,and if we went down that we were toast.We were coming to the fall.Then we went over.We screamed like idiots but we didn't care.Then by pure luck I caught onto a long tree brach sticking down almost.And Jen grabbed onto me."Morph!"I screamed at her as I heard the brach groan,it wouldn't hold us for long."I can't concentrate!"Then I heard the ground shaking above us,and I saw an elephant.< Hold on!I'll grab you! >Kelly said. Then two things happened at once,Jen lost her grip and the tree brach broke.But Kelly grabbed me.I heard a splash below.When Kelly picked me up I looked down,the water there was not a murky brown,it was red, as red as blood.Jen was gone.
When we met up with the others they told us the new morphs they had got. "I got a cheetah and a gorilla!Cool huh?"Jesse said. Joel said"I got a panther!"And Eric got a orange tiger.Then he asked:"Where's Jen?"Jesse looked at me,then Kelly.Then he said some words that fitted the situation appropiately.He knew she was gone, so did the others,they didn't ask how.But that night it was on the news.All they said was that a teenage girl was found dead in the zoo and that she was found in the crocidile exhibit and that the body had yet to be identified. It was all my fault,I should never have let her fall,I should have held onto her tighter,but now it was too late.I couldn't do anything now.The mission was still on for Saturday though,two days away.The mission should have been canceled.
We all met at the woods were Ax and Tobias lived.Laura and Jen came with me, Jesse,Joel,and Eric were the first ones there. "Ok,I say we go in in different morphs,so we'll look less suspicious.Eric,you go in bear morph,Ax,Tobias,you go in as wolves. You'll have to stop and demorph after awhile,keep track of the time Ax." < Yes Jesse. >He said.I was suprised he wasn't calling everyone prince.He had called Jake that,he had been their leader,now we didn't have one. "Steff,Joel,Laura,you go in as hawks,spread out though.I'll go in as a cheetah."Jesse said. "That's kind of obvious Jesse."Laura said. "No it isn't,like an Andalite is gonna know that cheetah's don't live in the woods."Then he added"Let's do it!"We all started to morph,I started to shrink,feather patterns appeared on my skin then they just popped out as real feathers.My nose and mouth became a beak and my feet turned leathery and became talons.Once we were done we headed to the Andalite base,or maybe it was actually a Yeerk base,we would soon find out.
Jesse reached the base first,then me and the others in bird morph, then Ax and Tobias,and Eric arrived last.< Man that sucked!I should have morphed something faster. >Then we all looked at the base,it was mostly a glass dome but there were buildings inside it,we couldn't see anyone.< I don't know if this is an Andalite base or not. >Ax said. < Ax,and everyone else,demorph. >Jesse said.I could tell he had a plan. Once we were demorphed Jesse said"Ax,we're going to morph you,is that ok?" < Yes I guess. >Ax sounded alot like a human when he was in normal form,but when he was human he played with sounds like they were toys.We all acquired him,then we all morphed except for Ax.Soon there were nine Andalites in a clearing in the woods.There weren't many instincts,there wasn't any hunger, or fear.Andalites are though. And really smart.I tested the stalk eyes,they were cool.My arms were weak,my legs were strong,and I had a wicked tail.I tried it out on a tree.I sliced the tree in half,my tail moved so fast I hardly saw it.< This is wicked. > I said.The others all agreed.
We walked up to the base,we were going to slice the dome with our tails when I saw a thing that looked like a door,it had a button near the door.I pushed it and the door slid open.We all went inside except for Tobias,Laura,and Eric,they were back up.When we went in the door slid shut behind us.I saw what looked like a camera above us,Ax took it out with his tail.We walked into the first building,it was full of computers and machines.But there was no one there.< This is Andalite technology! >Ax said excitedly.Ax has been away from his home and people along time.< Do princess' have logs or like a diary? >Joel asked. < Yes,everyone does. > < Ax,check when the last log was. >Jesse said. Ax did,he read the log for us,it was in Andalite language. < This was written a few hours ago,it say that fifty Andalite fighters left awhile ago to attack the mother ship in orbit above Earth! > < Can they take the mother ship? >Kelly asked. < It all depends,but I would say yes,that is quite a bit of fighters. > Then I heard someone enter the room,I looked with my stalk eyes,it was a female Andalite.Ax's morph could tell somehow. She pulled out a dracon beam and leveled it at us.< Who are you? >
< Who are you first? >I asked.She kept her gun leveled at us but she answered.< I am Jahar Sharmquil Corrass. >Ax told her his name,it was something like Aximili something something,Andalites have big names.Then Ax said< Your Allorans daughter. >She nodded.I knew who Alloran was,he was Visser3.< Are you an aristh? >Ax said. < Yes,that is why I stayed behind and all the fighters left to fight the mother ship.They lost,they managed to destroy many bug fighters and damage the mother ship severly.But the blade ships of Visser1,2,and 3 came and destroyed the fighters.My father is now Visser1,and Visser 1 and 3 are humans that can morph,I don't know how they got the technology.Who are the others with you Aximili? >Jesse answered.< We are human,we morphed Ax. >Jahar looked suprised. < Who gave you this power? >She asked.Tobias answered. < Elfangor,gave me and four other friends the power,one ran away,one was killed,and the two others were captured and became Visser's.Ax gave seven other people the power to morph,he had to if we were to keep going on fighting. > Then I heard a beep noise,it sounded like an alarm. < What's that? >I asked. < Yeerk vessels are headed this way! >
There was a blade ship coming,and ten bug fighters.It was the blade ship of Visser3,now Visser1.< We will stay and fight.Kelly, get the others in here.How many fighters do you have in the base Jahar? >Jesse asked. < We have three here,two people will need to be in each one. > Well,of course everyone wanted to be in a fighter.Only six of us could go,the other three would shoot the weapons that were outside on the base. We did rock,paper,scissors.< What is that you are doing? >Jahar asked. < A good way to make decissions. >Jesse said.It ended up that Jesse, Kelly,Laura,Joel,Eric and me.Jahar and Ax gave us quick leasons, I was in a fighter with Jesse,he was the pilot,I had the weapons. We took off,we took a low burn to get out,we stayed close to the base. Soon they were in sight,I only saw the bug fighters first. Jesse flew up higher to get above them,Ax or someone fired a gun from the base and took out a Bug Fighter.We dropped in behind a Bug Fighter,I blew out it's engines and it crashed into the ground below us.Then it exploded.I saw Eric and Kelly's ship get shot. "Oh no"I said.(We had demorphed before entering the ship.)It crashed into the base below,part of the base exploded and caught fire,they were probably dead.Then more shots from the base fired,they took out three ships,there were three left.Then Joel and Laura's ship crashed into a bug fighter,they both crashed into the ground."Man!Where did Joel learn how to fly?"I joked. "Likely from my mom"Jesse said.Soon all the Bug Fighters were out, then we saw it,the blade ship.
It fired at us,I tried to fire back but it had disabled our weapons. "Morph to hawk Steff,I have a plan.I morphed then I asked him what the plan was."Get out Steff,I'm driving this into the Blade Ship." < Are you crazy??!!! >I asked. "You have to be a little crazy to win a war."Then he said"Open hatch", the hatch opened. < Ok,but I'm staying with you. > "You sure?We're gonna die you know,there's a one in a million chance we'll live.Wait,ask Ax if this thing can eject us."I asked,it could.Jesse headed right for the Blade Ship,then he yelled eject and the seats shot right out of the space ship.I flew off my chair when I was pretty high,I saw the Andalite fighter smash into the back of the Blade ship,there was an explosion, then the back of the Blade ship caught fire.It looked like most of the engines were destroyed.The flew away as fast as they could.I landed and demorphed, everyone was ok.We had to abanndon the base,alot more ships were coming.We all morphed into birds except fro Ax and Jahar,they ran below us.When we far away I heard an explosion,I looked back an saw high flames from where the base had been.
Chapter 13
Everyone was becoming good friends,we had to be if we were going to be on the same team.Ax was happy to have another Andalite around.I was glad we didn't have to use the fly morph,that would have been so gross.It had been a pretty bad screw up, we had destroyed all three fighters and the base had been destroyed.Ax had hidden the morphing cube somewhere awhile ago,I didn't know where.I ust hoped we didn't get wiped out and another team had to come into it,that had happened to the last Animorphs.But maybe we could get them back,except for Cassie.She was beyond help,maybe Earth was too.
