This article that I have put on this page is not mine. It was written by some guy and can be found in almost all Mechwarrior 3 pages. My personal opinion is that this game is going to be another version of Mechwarrior 2 with enhanced graphics and new missions. Sure it's going to kick ass and sure I'm going to buy it, but in my opinion the Mechwarrior series reached its peak at Mercenaries and everything else has just been refinements. Hell, Zipper Interactive scavenged most of the elements in the game from Activision's version of the game. Well anyway, judging by these screen shots I was able to scrounge around and get this game will kick a lot of ass.
In MechWarrior 3 you will be able to customize your mech from the ground up. You can customize a mech from existing designs or you can create a whole new mech. You get to choose the wieght of the mech, torso, arms, legs to use to create your mech with. You can also add decals, logos and color schemes to your mech.
Not only can you build your mech, you can direct power to different parts of the mech including the lasers and seeking level. You can direct more power to the seeking level which means you can get a lock on enemys far away.
In addition to the mechs in MechWarrior 2 (MW2) FASA is making 4 new mechs. One of them is said to be the BearCat. Along with the customibility, There will be a total of 18 mechs, 35 vehicles, more realistic landscaping and a new targeting system.
The mechs have been made more durable which means longer battles between mechs. In MechWarrior 2, a hit to the knee would damage the whole leg, but in Mechwarrior 3 if you hit the knee it would only damage the knee. Don't you hate it (in MW2) when you have to shutdown for about 15 seconds? Well, in MW3 you can go into a lake to slow down the heat production!! You can control your mech to stomp on other mechs if their down, and even step on humans! In MW2 if your leg got blown off you were a sittin' duck. In MW3 you can jump or drag yourself if your missing a leg. Mechs can also lay down voluntarily or fall and not blow up. The lasers in MW3 have been made solid instead of short bursts. There will be three different sets of games you can play:
1. Story mode- The standard game. You will be given missions to complete to advance in the game.
2. Quick mode- A one mission game where you get to choose what landscape, time of day, and how hard it is to win (probably like the Trials of Greivence in MW2).
3. Historic mode- You get to play battles that occured earlier in the mech world. Mechwarrior 3 will also have multiplayer. You will be able to battle against a friend or against the computer. It will support internet play and LAN.
You will be able to control your wingman (or wingmechs) to do certain tasks. Some of these tasks include: "Attack my target", "Defend my target", and other related commands.
MechWarrior 3 will be more of a strategy and more realistic game than MW2. You stay with the same mech for a battle(a number of missions). For example if your in a mission and you run out of missles, than in the next mission you would target a supply base and resupply. If your wingman loses an arm, than disable an enemy mech and take his arm!! You can salvage items from disabled or useless enemy mechs. You will set your own nav points and tell your wingamen different formations. You can also communicate with neutral mechs which inhabit the planet.
I've decided to put a section in on the landscape because it is greatly improved over MW2. The landscape is much more realistic with more buildings and houses in the urban parts, more trees and grasses, and greater detail in mountains and canyons. In MW2 the terrain was a few hills and sometimes mountains, shrubs and little grasses and few buildings. In MW3 there will be much more terrain including forests, swamps, lakes and rivers, canyons, buildings and houses. All of the terrain will have exceptional graphics (which MW2 lacked) and combined with the detail in the mechs, the game will be visually impressive.

At this time, a 3D accelerator will not be required to play MechWarrior 3, but CPU intensive features, such as bilinear texture filtering, advanced lighting and fog require hardware acceleration.
