This ring has the spirit of an elf tied into it and has the following
abilities;
- Detect invisible 20' radius 60% chance.
- Detect secret doors 10' radius 30% chance (50% if searching).
- Detect concealed doors 10' radius 40% chance (60% if searching).
- Detect illusions 30% chance.
- Wearer 90% immune to sleep and charm.
- Wearer can speech, read & write (if written language exists) Elven,
Gnome, Halfling, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Orc & Gnoll.
- Wearer has 60' infravision when looking in any direction that the
ring can see.
- +1 to hit with swords & bows if grin is on the weapon holding hand.
- Grin communicates with its wearer telepathicaly even if the wearer is
normally immune.
- Grin has a 16 IQ.
Abilities 1 - 4 & 7 above rely upon grin being able to see via its gem
stone(s) if they are covered it cant see.
To survive Grin has to drain 4HPS per day from the wearer. Grin can
"hibernate" for 20 years but needs to drain a extra 2HP per day for a
number of days equal to the number of years of hibernation.
If a suitable ring is available Grin will move into a more expensive
one worn on the same hand.
Grin has 5HD and 20HPS and is aligned NN. Grin can defend itself from
removal by its wearer in a number of ways as follows;
- It can shrink so it is to tight to be removed.
- It can drain D4HPS per minute.
- If broken it regenerates 5HPS per minute.
Grin will never knowingly kill its wearer preferring to convince him /
her of its usefulness.
