Damn the Darkness

Once upon a time, somewhere, in centuries past. Where mystical casltes and magical people roamed. Where dragons flew overhead and the mists always seemed to surround you. There lived a princess. A very beautiful and loving princess, whose greatest gift was her heart. The one she loved would behold nothing else. And love she did.

One day, she was walking in her garden. Someone else was there with her. When she turned to see, her eyes fell across a most handsome prince. As they looked into each others eyes, they felt the ties that bind encircle them. They loved like no other. Their days were filled with each with one another. Passion and desire ruled all that they had. They frolicked in the mists together and ran through the trees. They sang to the roses together and made wishes to the stars. Their lives became one.

Little did they know that someone had been watching them, despising what he saw. Wanting the princess for himself, he plotted and he planned. He had watched the princess unfold into the beauty that she was. Feeling all the cold and ugliness, in his world, he wanted her. To hold something of beauty.

One fateful night, as the princess and prince lay asleep, Darkness crept into their lives and stole the princess away. Sensing no presence of her, the prince woke, catching a glimpse of his princess being taken away from him. But the Darkness was to quick and in a cloud of black she was gone.

All time seemed to stop for the prince. Every place that was of her beauty, had died. The blackness seemed to cover everything. He searched for his princess everywhere, slaying anything that stood in his path. Battles he fought physically and ones inside of himself. For years he endured this pain and suffering. And each time he destroyed something, he felt a little more of the darkness in his life, knowing one day he would be face to face with it.

That day arrived. He saw it. And there, in the blackest part of the mists, he saw her. But the beauty that used to radiate from around her was gone. There was only a faint glow that came from her eyes as she looked and tried to reach for him.

Seeing this, the prince attacked with all his strength. But he could also feel his princess' strength and it was fading. For hours this battle raged on. Feeling himself start to weaken, he heard her. Looking back to where she was, he saw her floating, her hand stretched towards him yet again.

"My prince, please, give into the darkness. I have endured it for years, until your time to come was here. I can not stay much longer and wish for you to join me."

Feeling her pull on him, the prince lay down his sword, letting the darkness encircle him, twist around him. As he was slowly waning away, he felt the princess' fingers entwine with his. Felt her lips upon his...breathing in each others last breath.
