Race Report.
Mika Hakkinen regained the initative in the championship race after his McLaren team got their tactics spot on to hand victory to the Finn. Michael Schumacher was second and is now four points behind his rival going into the final of the season on November 1. David Coulthard was third and was followed home by Eddie Irvine.
Mika Hakkinen can afford to finish behind M. Schumacher in the final race in Japan and still claim his first Formula One crown. If M. Schumacher wins in Japan and Hakkinen become place 2 then have they both 96 points and then decide the number of wins would normally the criteria but if Schumacher wins in Japan he and the Finn will have seven each for 1998. If Hakkinen is second in Suzuka, he would have more runner-up places.
