BJ
Single & Double
Decks
1;) Learning
to pick up the
cards with one hand.
Just press down on the table right in front
of the cards with your thumb, and grasp the cards
gently between index finger and thumb.
Presto...you got the cards with only 2
fingers. You can tap the cards gently on the
table to straighten them and adjust them with the
other 3 fingers. Practicing on an ironing
board with a pad on it works great. You've not
bent or crimped the cards which is something that
the casino appriciates. Keep the cards in your
hand until you are completely done with playing your
hand. If you lay them down, the dealer will
think you are done with your hand. Don't take
the cards over the edge of the table. If
anything bring your body closer to the cards, not
the cards closer to your body.
2;-) Don't touch the money that
you
have bet....this money is in the state of limbo..not
yours and not the casinos.
Once that first card leaves the dealers
hand the money is in limbo. Don't try to put
more money on top of your bet, after the first card
is out. This is called capping a bet and is
illegal. Casinos will probably ask you to
leave if you try this. If you have
trouble tucking the cards. Just lay them down
behind the money as close as possilble to the money.
If you want a hit, drag the edge of the cards
gently along the table top in a sweeping motion
towards yourself. This procedure is only for
single and double deck games. Most dealers
will not take a verbal "HIT ME" unless you are
handicapped. We will get into that
later.
Well, have you learned enough to go
on to learning the game??? click here
if you are ready. If not just keep going.
3;) If you split or double down...is the only time a
dealer will accept a hand signal on a
game.
When you get
your cards, and you want to double down or split,
just turn them face up in front of your bet, and
match your bet by placing the chip beside the
original bet. This way, the dealer know right
away that you want to do something different than
just hit, and will ask you if you want to split or
double down, and will play the hand out
accordingly. Just remember, that a Blackjack
can only be with the first two original cards that
the dealer gave you.
4;) Getting a Blackjack (21)...can only be
done on the first two original cards.
Any...A...and 10 value card
(K...Q...J...10) constitutes a blackjack. Just
turn your cards over, and the dealer will pay you
when it is your turn (provided the dealer didn't
have one too). Blackjack pays 1½ times your
bet. If you have $5 bet you will receive $7.50
for your BJ.
5;) Insurance...Surrender...Even money...Sucker
bet or not???
All
depends on you. These are normally called
house bets..(for a reason)..but, if you keep your
money, that's all that matters. If you have BJ
and the dealer has an..A..showing (some casinos)
will allow you to take "even money". This is when
you get only your original bet back and not 1½
times. The dealers don't offer this, you have
to ask for it.
If the dealer
has an..A..in front of them, they will ask the table
if anyone wants "insurance" (this will cost you half
your original bet and is placed on the insurance
line in front of the the players bets) if you take
this bet, you are basically betting that the dealer
has Blackjack (21). If he does, and you have
taken the insurance, you lose your original bet,
but...insurance pays 2 to 1 so, you will break
even.
Surrender is when the you don't want
to play the cards given to you, you just throw your
cards in and lose half your bet. Not a real
wise bet, you can't win with no cards in front of
you.
