Game Day Recaps, News & Stats

STEELERS ARE ATOP OF THE AFC NORTH!!
The Steelers defeated the Broncos 13-6 in Denver to start the 2024 season at 2-0 and have sole position of 1st in the division. QB Justin Fields got the starting call for the 2nd week in a row due to Russell Wilson's re-aggravated calf injury. Fields found TE Darnell Washington for the team's 1st TD of the season. He completed 13 of 20 passes for 117 yards. His completion rating for the first two games is 69.8% with no turnovers. The TD pass to Washington was the only time the Steelers found the end zone for the entire game primarily due to numerous costly offensive penalties. On one drive alone...2023 1st round pick OT Broderick Jones was flagged 3 times for holding. He was benched for the rest of the game. The Steeler "D" answered the call for the 2nd week in a row holding the Broncos to just 6 points and picked off rookie QB Bo Nix twice. The defense leads the league with a +5 turnover ratio and is 2nd at points allowed of 8.0 per game.
NEXT BLOOD TO DRAW WILL BE......

STEELERS LOSE FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF GAME AGAIN!!
The extra day of preparation due to a blizzard in Buffalo didn't seem to help the Steelers from continuing their 1st round playoff woes. Their 31-17 loss to the Bills the day after it was originally scheduled, have the Steelers in desperate need of some answers for the 2024 season.
STEELERS WIN AT BALTIMORE AND MAKE PLAYOFFS!!
The Steelers defeated the Ravens 17-10 in the final regular season game of 2023. They finished 10-7 and 3rd in the AFC North, in which EVERY team in the division ended the season over .500. Pittsburgh went 5-1 in their division...the best in the AFC. Unfortunately, their 7 losses had taken their playoff hopes right down to the final week...once again!! They got in as the 7th seed with the Ravens victory combined with a Jacksonville loss the next day. The bad news is that the 2023 NFL sack leader...T.J. Watt suffered a sprained MCL that will keep him out of the wild card playoff game at Buffalo. He has set an NFL record becoming the 1st player in history to lead the league in sacks in 3 separate seasons. Former great Deacon Jones had done it 5 times...before sacks became an official stat in 1982.
STEELERS' PLAYOFF CHANCES COME DOWN TO THE WIRE!!
The Steelers defeated the Seahawks 30-23 in Seattle to keep their playoff chances alive heading into the final game of the 2023 season. The resurgent offense behind QB Mason Rudolph scored at least 30 points the last two games...the only two times this season. The "O" racked up 468 yards of total offense with 266 yards through the air, including 131 yards by WR George Pickens on 7 receptions. RB Najee Harris' 122 yards and 2 TD's were part of the 202 rushing yards by the offense. The defense is currently the No. 2 team in the NFL with a +11 give/take turnover ratio. Edge rusher T.J. Watt did not record a sack but is still tied for the league lead with 17.0. The Steelers will face the Ravens in Baltimore, whom have already clinched a first round bye. The Ravens "should" sit their starters opening the door for a Steelers victory. It will take that...plus a Buffalo loss - OR - a Jacksonville loss for the Steelers to make the playoffs.

STEELERS MISS PLAYOFFS FOR 2022!!
The Steelers missed the playoffs after defeating the Browns 28-14 in the last game of the season. They needed 3 things to happen...a win vs. Cleveland, a loss by New England to the Bills and a loss by Miami to the Jets. The first two things went their way...however Miami pulled off a last minute FG to defeat the Jets. The Steelers showed a late season surge after starting 2-6. The won 6 out of their last 7 games and finished just 1 game behind Baltimore in the AFC North. Any victory early on would have most likely put them in the playoffs. Many positive things happened during the 2nd half of the season...with the Offense AND Defense improving statistically along the way. Notable stat; The "D" finished the season tied for the league lead in interceptions with 20, while Minkah Fitzpatrick also tied individually with 6 picks on the year.
FRANCO HARRIS DIES AT 72!!
The Great Steeler RB Franco Harris passed away on Dec. 20th, 2022 just 3 days before the 50th anniversary of the "Immaculate Reception." The Steelers will be hosting the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Eve of 2022 to commemorate the anniversary. Franco's jersey NO. 32 will also be retired that evening.
STEELERS SELECT QB KENNY PICKETT WITH 1ST PICK!!
The Steelers added to their QB hunt after the retirement of Big Ben by taking Kenny Pickett from their own backyard...the Pitt. Panthers. They picked up Mitch Tribusky in free agency before the draft. Mike Tomlin has said that including Mason Rudolph, all 3 QB's will compete for the starting job in training camp. The complete 2022 Steeler draft is below....
2022 Draft Picks

1(20) Kenny Pickett QB Pittsburgh

3(20) DeMarvin Leal DE Texas A&M

STEELERS LOSE TO K.C. TO EXIT THE 2021 PLAYOFFS!!
The Steelers lost 42-21 in the Wild Card Round to the Chiefs at Arrowhead...in what was most likely the last game played by Big Ben. Coach Tomlin and G.M. Colbert will have serious work ahead of them in the off-season. Besides looking for a QB...there are numerous free agents that have been key players for the team. JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Washington on the WR side, and Joe Haden and Terrell Edmunds in the defensive backfield...are the most notable. DC Keith Butler has also discussed retiring as the Steelers are coming off of a league-worst 146.1 rushing yards allowed per game. They did however, lead the league in sacks again with 55 total.
STEELERS WIN AND MAKE THE 2021 PLAYOFFS!!
The Steelers defeated the Ravens 16-13 in OT...and enter the playoffs as the No. 7 seed. They got help from the Jaguars beating the Colts and the Raiders defeating the Chargers. T.J. Watt tied Michael Strahan's season sack record with 22.5. T.J. could have broken the record earlier in the game but an initially called sack during a QB strip was ruled "not a sack" by stat officials. Steeler haters and N.Y.G. lovers are claiming that T.J. had more games than Strahan to tie the record...since 2021 was the first NFL season to have 17 games. Those people don't realize that Watt missed 2 entire games and 3 quarters of another due to injuries.
STEELERS WIN HALL OF FAME GAME!!
The Steelers overcame a sluggish 1st half to seal a 16-3 victory over Dallas in the 2021 HOF game. Such Notable Steelers from the class of 2020 were inducted one day prior to the 2021 class since there was no ceremony last year due to Covid restrictions. Troy Polomalu was introduced by long time DC Dick Lebeau, Coach Bill Cowher and Donnie Shell were also inducted.

STEELERS 2020 SEASON IN REVIEW...
The Steelers finished the 2020 regular season at 12-4 losing to the Browns 24-22 in Cleveland. The Browns' victory put them in the playoffs for the first time since 2002. The Steelers had previously clinched the No. 3 seed to start the playoffs. They entered the Wild Card Round hosting the Browns...one week later. They again lost to Cleveland 48-37 while committing numerous mistakes, miscues and turnovers. They trailed the Browns 28-0 after the first quarter. The Steelers were obviously not prepared for that game nor were they for the final stretch of the season...dropping 4 out of their last 5 games. The organization has fired 3 coaches thus far, including OC Randy Fichtner.
Some of the Steelers' final regular season stats for the 2020 season:
- The No. 1 overall team in the league recording 56.0 sacks.
- The No. 1 overall team (tied) with 18 interceptions.
- The No. 2 overall team in takeaways with 27.
- The No. 3 overall team (tied) in turnover differential at +9.
- The No. 3 overall team in total "D" allowing 305.8 yards per game.
- The No. 3 overall team "D" against the pass allowing just 194.4 y/p/g.
- The No. 3 overall team "D" allowing just 19.5 points per game. (1 point behind the leader)
- 1st team EVER to lead the NFL in sacks 4 straight years!!
- Individual stats....T.J. Watt lead all defensive players in the NFL with 15.0 sacks.
Bud Dupree recorded 8 sacks through 11 games before a season ending injury.
THE STEELERS' 2019 SEASON IN REVIEW...
The Steelers 2019 campaign that was riddled with major injuries ended in a last ditch effort to secure a wildcard spot...which sadly failed. They lost 28-10 to the Ravens in Baltimore on "Division Sunday." They would have needed the Titans to lose at Houston for any hope of making the playoffs. That didn't happen and their season ended no matter if they beat the Ravens or not. A season that was devastated with major injuries to key starters...ended only on the last week of the season, much to the surprise of many!! From "Big Ben" going down in week 2...to Mason Rudolph...to "Duck" Hodges...James Connor in and out...JuJu...in and out...to Pouncey in and out. It was a wonder that The Steelers even had a chance to make the playoffs. The defense had risen to the occasion however, which kept the team in contention. Here are a few stats that the Steeler "D" turned in to end the season:
- The No. 5 overall defense in the NFL (304 y/p/g allowed)
- No. 5 at points allowed (18.9 pts/p/gm)
- No. 3 against the pass (194.6 y/p/g allowed)
- No. 1 in takeaways ( 18 forced fumbles recovered / 20 picks...2nd best)
- No. 1 in sacks (54)
Some personal stats....
- T.J. watt tied for 4th overall with 14.5 sacks.
- Joe Haden tied for 2nd overall with 5 picks
- Minkah Fitzpatrick...4 picks and 2 returned for TD's
- Special Teams: Diontae Johnson's 85 yard Punt Return TD...longest in the NFL
