Hello! Welcome to wonderous word of the week. Each week or so, I'll put a new
word in this page. I pick words by the sound of it. Also I get most
of the words from my vocabulary list from school. I like a lot of words,
and I'll tell you what the meaning is. I don't want to sound like a teacher or
anything, but what else am I supposed to do with a page with favorite words?
So I just started this page on October 16,1998 so hold on, and wait next week
for new words.
Word of October 16,1998
Catastrope-a sudden disaster-I'm not a disaster lover. I just think the word
sounds cool,don't you?
Words of October 18,1998
Elicit-to draw forth or bring out-I like the sound of the word. It sort of reminds
me of a snake or a rainbow. Well it means like to bring out the truth from someone...
that's what elicit means.
Authentic-what appears or claims to be-That word reminds me of tropical stuff,
but it's not....but the word still sounds cool.
Slang-a word or a phrase that means something else than it really means-okay I'l
give you an example of a slang: I have a crush on Will Smith. Okay it means you
love somone crush, but crush the word really does mean like to smoosh something
together or to ruin something, but crush in that sentence is a slang.
The word seems cool. It reminds me of a fang for some reason.
Words of October 25,1998
Maternal-motherly-maternal is just a cool word. It reminds me of forever.
Enigma-a puzzling or baffling problem, person, situation, etc....-my friend did
a vocabulary sentence with that word which made no sense and was so funny because
the sentence didn't make any sentence. Because of that I don't think I'll
ever get sick of hearing that word. This is what she wrote enigma in a sentence
to be: At the four way stop sign, Bob got into enigma and a catastrophe. Isn't
that the funniest thing you ever heard?
Words of November 3,1998
controversial-causing disagreement, dispute, or debate-It reminds me of
spacey or universal stuff, and I really like space stuff, and that's why
I based my homepage on space.
lenient-tolerant-it reminds me of desks, erasers, and dust/lent. It's weird,
it reminds me of dirty stuff.
Words of November 22,1998
overt-not clandestine, open to the public-it reminds me of plain bagels with
cream cheese. I love bagels!!
pacifist-a person who opposes war or other violence-it reminds me of some old
guy with a long beer standing in the middle of the sea on a rock....with waves
hitting him...but he still stands. I also like the sound of the word.
