Immortals

Immoratals
What are they?
Immortal what are they? Are they physical beings that can be killed by chopping off thier heads like vampires or are they more like gods and goddess that can never die? Well all these are correct in mortal terms. But to an immortal it can mean nothing but rules and regulations. Immortals were once human, demi humans, humanoid, or other. They were also your heroes and your villains. There is no refusal to any alignment. During these characters life times they had discovered a higher level of existence and set out to obtain this form of existence. These characters had to had to search for immortals to be their patrons and then had to undertake quests significant to those immortals. Immortals do not die of old age, disease, or damage of body. Though this we all know from what we have heard from our own sources or movies. But immortals can die under certain circumstances only. They don't have to eat, drink, or breathe if they don't want to; these are all luxuries to them. Immortals possess great powers that mortals can only dream of. They are 100% resistance to mortal magic. They can cast the same spells as mortals but with a great intensity of power. These beings live on fantastic planes of existence and only interact with the Prime Plane when they want to. Immortals have a few goals they shot for and they are as follows;
  1. To advance the influence of his or her Sphere
  2. To gain personal power, and
  3. To achieve personal goals.

So they lead a boring existence upon some wonderful plane all by their self just planning what they are going to be doing for the next 100 years right?
Wrong! Immortality isn't that boring. You forget there are plenty of other immortals around that will at some point get in your way or you will get in their way and sure enough there will be a conflict.
Yeah but I won't die so what is the point.
Wrong again! Immortals can die only by the hands of other immortals on certain occasions.

What immortals aren't
Immortals are not monsters. Dm's please don't sick your high level characters on to evil immortals. The reason I say this is because I tried this before. Once a PC has slayed an immortal the game no longer becomes fun for the players for the reason is that there is nothing more to fear. If the characters have nothing to fear they will soon get bored of their powers and skills and think what for. The characters will also have no more respect for the immortals and they won't feel any awe and majesty when one appears. At this point it is time to retire your characters and start new ones.

Five Spheres
There are five spheres in the universe and they are Matter, Energy, Time, Thought, and Entropy. Do not get the term sphere and plane mixed up. You see a sphere is simply an ingredient. All planes are made up of all five ingredients known as spheres. Lets explain a little about each sphere;

  1. Matter=Is related to the element of earth. It's purpose is to withstand destruction. Stands for sturdiness and stability. Matter is the beginning or should I say the building block of all things.
  2. Energy=Related to the element of fire. Purpose of this sphere is to create more energy and activity. Energy is constantly transforming things by consuming Matter, speeding up time, and exciting thought to release more energy. Energy is creative, channeling magical energies to bring new things into being.
  3. Time=Is related to the element of water. Purpose of time is to promote change in all things while remaining unchanging itself and to maintain the flow of time. Time is every where recycling the lessons of the past to remind the present. Time is a creative, shaping force causing change through aging and rebirth.
  4. Thought=Is related to the element of air. It's purpose is to understand all of existence and to make the other spheres it's tools. It is the very essence of the self consciousness. It is philosophy, realization, and understanding. Thought seeks to understand everything in order to manipulate the other powers of the multiverse.
  5. Entropy=Not related to any element. Entropy is the weakening of the multiverse. Seeks to bring all things to a stop, causing oblivion. This spheres purpose is the ultimate destruction of the multiverse. All other spheres oppose Entropy but cannot destroy for to do so would unbalance reality and bring about their own destruction as well. Entropy can not exist without the other spheres.
Every immortal serves one of these spheres of power. An immortal can only serve one of these spheres.

Spheres and alignments
Three of the five elements favor an alignment. The other two don't. This doesn't mean that you have to be a certain alignment to join that sphere it just means that most of the people in that sphere are going to be of that alignment. For example Entropy favors the chaotic side but you will in some cases see a lawful or even a neutral immortal in that sphere as well. But in most of the Sphere will be of the favored.

Limitations on Immortals
The hierarchs have long noticed some importanr facts.First, since they were all moratals at one piont they relize that the prime planewould not produce fir candidates for immortality if it were directly controlled by immoratals. This would be disasterous for the reasons that mortals could easily be kept in the dark of the ways of magic and would not feel the need for they would have their immortal ruler to protect them. And soon after mortals would soon become immortal pets. Second, Immortals are much more durable than mortals are. An Immortal can easily kill a mortal by simply just getting mad at them or just by sheer acident. They relize that mortal life is unfair as it is and to let immortals go around and hurt mortals would be even more unfair. So for this factor the immortal hierarchs established a rule among themselfs:
On the prime plane,
Direct Action Against Mortals is
Forbidden.

The hierachs created a spell themselfs so that immortals could scan the prime plane for the tell-tale emanations of direct contact on the mortal planes. This will be explained later.

Immortals have three forms that they can appear in. These are as follows:

  1. Manifestation Form
  2. Incorpereal Form
  3. Mortal Form
Manifestation Form
This is the immortals most powerful form. This is what the immortal looks like in front of other immortals. This is their normal form, and also the one most worn.

Incorporeal Form
This form is misty, insubstantial, glowing forms that cannot be hurt by any sort of mortal magic or physical attacks(nor can the immortal launch attacks against the mortal). These forms are used so that the immortal can communicate with mortals; in this form they can travel into the mortals dreams for safe and mysterious communication. This form can move at 720'(240').

Mortal Identity
Immortals can take on the shape of any mortal being. These forms are completely indistinguishable from other mortals. They can take on the form of any character class or monster species; those belonging to a character class can be of any experience level. This form are used for the main reason to accompany mortals that are involved in one of their plots.

Immortals and combat
Immortals never have to make morale rolls like mortals do they can choose their own action that best suits their interest. Is an immortal chooses to stay and fight they will never fight to the death unless their sphere wishes it. An immortal can only be killed in his manifestation form. This form can be killed many of times on any plane that is not his home plane. For instance; A player character engages in combat with an immortal and surprises the immortal into a trap and slays his body on the prime plane but the immortals home plane is the 6th level of the heavens. The immortal is not dead but in a regeration state. The immortal that has been destroyed is returned to his home plane to regenerate, but while the immortal is here if attacked again and destroyed he will perished forever.
