One of the projects
for Ohio University's ET 280 (Engineering and Technology Overview) course
was to build a tower using 500 straws and 200 straight pins. The only tool
allowed was a thimble, to prevent sticking yourself with pins. Every group
in the class--3 to 4 people per group--competed with one other. Ours reached
16 feet. The winning skyscraper towered about 26 feet up.
