“I’m boreeeed,” Amber whined loudly, twirling a piece of her limp brown hair around her finger.
“Why don't you go have sex with some household object then?” Mara said, not looking up from reading the New York Times.
“Good idea, Mara... what about Divey's bed?”
“Too big for you,” Mara said, setting down the newspaper. “You should start out with something smaller.”
“Like what?” Amber questioned.
“Let’s say, Grin.” Amber burst out laughing.
“That's not saying much about Grin considering Nose Dive’s bed is a twin.”
“Poor Grinny.”
“Yeah, from what I heard when I got locked in the guys’ locker room it’s quite accurate too.” Mara shook her head and smirked. Amber uncomfortably stood up from sitting on the carpeted floor and in one movement perched herself on top of the counter.
“Uh huh, and when were you ‘locked’ in?”
“Uh… last Wednesday?” Amber said, chewing on the end of her finger.
“Yeah, right… you know you wanted to get locked in.”
“I walked in as a joke and Tanya locked the door behind me so I ended up hiding the whole time in an empty locker while the guys were walking around in like their boxers, or towels across their midriff.”
“As a joke? Gimme a fucking break, you horny little slut! You were Begging for it!” Mara teased.
“You’re so cruel, considering how horrible it was in there. Steam everywhere and the guys stole Wild Wing’s towel!”
“I’ll bet you liked that.” Amber rolled her eyes and began to swing one of her feet back and forth off the counter.
“Lestat ran into the shower room and comes out holding Wild Wing’s clothes. Ten minutes later, Wild Wing walks out wearing nothing but a towel and goes, “Alright, who the fuck took my clothes?” so Duke ran up and grabbed Wild Wing’s towel and ran away. Wing yelled death threats and after he found a new set of clothes and left to change, the guys talked about how unfair it was because he was so big.”
“You’re such a little whore!”
“Why? I wasn’t the one that stole the towel!” Amber defended herself.
“No, just in general, Amb.”
“Am not!”
“Sure you are!” Mara chirped brightly.
“Am not. Wild Wing is the whore, not me!”
“No dear, you’re a whore. A very nice whore, but a whore nonetheless… Little miss ‘I like to watch men go at it together’ and Little miss ‘I’ll fuck anything under the sun with two legs no matter what their sexual preference is’.”
“It’s not my fault Jake turned gay!” Amber protested weakly.
“And Lestat? C’mon you knew about him!” Mara pressed on. Amber shook her head, straying from the subject.
“Well, I could never be certain because he joked so much.”
“How about Dak? And Hector? And Wild Wing? You’ve got quite a list, my little half-sister.”
“Dak was a rebound, Hector was when I was drunk, I can’t vouch for Wild Wing… at they’re still straight!”
“Lame excuses: you’re still a slut.”
“Are not!”
“Are too!”
“You’re just saying that ‘cause you’re a prude,” Amber taunted back. Mara rose to her feet and put her hands on her hips in akimbo.
“I’ll have you know I’ve had sex multiple times!” Amber shook her head, pretending to get rid of the thought.
“Unnecessary info, Mara.”
“But it was just with one guy, Amber. Don’t you want to hear about it? He’s really quite good.” Mara sank back down onto the couch and smiled. Amber rolled her eyes.
“No, I don’t want to hear about it and two, how would you know if he was quite good if you haven’t tried it with other guys?”
“Because we can go on all night long.” Amber stared at Mara and hopped off of the counter. She walked to the other side and took out a bottle of rum and a bottle of orange soda out, clearly trying to distract herself.
“I hope that’s not the reason why I’ve been waking up at four in the morning everyday for the past two and a half years,” Amber muttered as she poured orange soda into a glass.
“Probably not; there isn’t much to knock over anymore.” Amber looked up at Mara, not watching as the entire contents of the rum bottle poured into her glass. She shook her head disgusted and capped the empty bottle before putting it away. “I’m afraid, my dear sister, that I haven’t exactly been prudent in the past either. Of course, I never had sex before Duke. I mean, hell, I’d barely gotten to second, but when Duke and I first got together—we planned on holding off on sex for a month, considering how inexperienced we both were—the month turned into about three days.”
“THREE DAYS?!” Amber squealed. “Jeez, I seem like a fucking nun compared to you!”
“Hey, you know you’re different that with me and Duke. We know we’re going to stay together forever so it’s not THAT big of a deal… well, sort of. Okay, I’m a romantic fool, so sue me.”
“Thanks, I’ll remind Phil to do that for me later!” Mara glared and shrugged her shoulders. Amber clasped a hand over the glass filled with Orange soda and rum and took a large gulp. By impulse, she immediately spit the strong taste across the room. Mara giggled. “By the way, what do you think of my outfit?” Mara eyed her sister closely; Amber was wearing large platform sneakers, green plaid capris that had zippers and suspenders hanging down from belt loops, and a black fishnet shirt over a sparkly silver bra.
“Slut,” Mara said with a smile. Amber crossed her arms across her chest and looked back at Mara pleadingly. “Why’s it so important what you look like? You never gave a fuck about appearance before.”
“I just want an answer, is it okay?” Mara sighed.
“Yes, Amber. Nose Dive will approve of your unique fashion sense.” Amber blushed and looked at her watch before gulping the rest of her drink down. Mara sighed loudly, resigning back to her newspaper.
“Mara, you don’t approve, do you?” Amber finally said. Mara set down her newspaper and motioned to a chair across from the couch she was sitting on. Amber walked to the couch slowly and sank down in the deep material.
“Amber, it’s none of my business whether I approve or don’t approve. From what I can say now, I think you’re becoming a wonderful young lady and are starting to become very responsible. You aren’t a little girl anymore and you shouldn’t be sheltered.” Mara reached out for Amber’s hand and patted the black biker glove on it. “I’m proud to have a sister as mature as you.” Amber nodded her head and rose to her feet.
“Thanks Mara,” she said with a smile. “I’ll be back later.”
Amber turned walked out of the room and turned down the hallway. She looked both ways before slipping into the fourth room on the right--Nose Dive's room.
Nose Dive was lying on his stomach on his bed, glued to the Phishman Game he was playing on his TV. Amber smiled and locked the door behind her. She quietly turned off the overhead lights so that neon glows from the various lamps Nose Dive bought would shine. Nose Dive cursed before throwing his joy stick at the television and turning it off.
"Lose again?" Nose Dive looked up startled.
"Amber... I didn't hear you come in." He took in a deep break, pulling himself into a sitting position as he studied Amber. "You look great," he said, wishing afterwards he had said something more romantic. Amber shrugged her shoulders casually and put a hand on one of her narrow hips. Nose Dive stood up and stumbled toward her, "God, you're gorgeous."
"You'll never believe the conversation I had with Mara." Nose Dive looked down and bit his lip, knowing Amber would taunt him until he was ready to explode by simple not acknowledging his needs. "She was telling me disgusting things, such as her sex life."
"Yeah, shame she and Duke don't get married."
"They will sooner or later."
"Amber, they're both great people and I hate to break it to you, but it's not going to happen. They've been together almost three years, only had one fight and have been closer ever since."
"So you're leaving it like that? I know they're gonna get married! I'll bet anything that because I know! They are destined for each other." Amber said nervously, wondering if she was truly hoping for the impossible. Nose Dive smiled and advanced toward her, placing a hand on both sides of her hips. He leaned his head toward her and gazed into her amber eyes.
"Anything?"
"Why? What do you have in mind?" Amber said, questioning his glance.
"Alright, if they aren't engaged by the start of their third year going out, you have to sleep with me in a public place." Amber gasped and pulled away from him.
"You're kidding?!"
"Why? I thought you were convinced," Nose Dive teased. Amber turned her back to Nose Dive so that he wouldn't see the beads of persperation on her forehead.
"Fine then... but if I win the stakes are going to be high."
"I like high. Make's you feel good," Nose Dive teased. Amber clenched her fist and took in a deep breath to control her temper; she hated anything relating to drugs.
"If I win," she finally said, "you have to makeout with Lestat." Nose Dive choked and started to stutter.
"What?! That's so horribly... gah! What are you thinking?" Amber paused, realizing she had Nose Dive in an awkward situation.
"But weren't you confident you would win?" Nose Dive froze and slowly a smile began to form on his face.
"Fine then, babe. You're on." Amber smiled and held out a hand for Nose Dive to shake. Nose Dive took her hand then pulled her close into him. He looked down at her and smelled her hair, then nuzzled her neck with his beak.
"You're so fucking beautiful. God, I want you so bad." Amber closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around his back, allowing Nose Dive to envelop her in his arms.
Amber looked at her calendar, months had passed and it was only three days until she lost the bet. She sighed wondering if fate could be so cruel to keep Mara and Duke apart. Nose Dive had been purposely leaving magazines around her bedroom of places with hundreds of people.
"The beach, the mall, a hottub ontop of a limosine," Amber moaned, shoving the pile onto the floor. She hadn't even encountered the other problem; what would happen when Lestat found out she had been betting on him especially considering what happened with Jake? Amber leaned her head down and bit her lower lip to keep from crying. Lestat and Jake had been a couple for close to a year, went on trips to Puck World together, then one day Lestat came home alone. His face was pale and he had lost so much weight that all of his ribs were visible. Duke had taken Lestat to his room and came out hours later to announce that Jake's heir had left Jake incharge of a small sect on Tralus. Jake had left only one note for Lestat:
Lestat,
I'm taking over my father's leadership as requested by my family. I will be starting my own gang since you have made me a Master. This is hard for me to write, let alone do, but I think atleast for now we should call our relationship to a halt. Call it a petit repose if you'd like. When you were leader of the Guild for that short period of time, I was absolutely miserable--I was miserable the years I waited for Amber and I can't wait my life any longer. I really care about you, but it hurts too much. Please understand; maybe there's hope for us in the future.
-Jake DeCharmante
Please give Duke my regards. I'll be in touch.
Amber felt her heart up in her throat as she realized she was standing outside of Lestat's door. Tentatively, she knocked on Lestat's door.
"What do you want?" his voice sneered through the wall. Amber opened the door and shut it behind her. "Oh Amber, hey." Lestat said, more mildly. Amber sighed; Lestat wasn't wearing a shirt and had blood on his knuckles from hitting the punching bag too hard. He hadn't gained any weight or muscle tone back yet.
"Hey Lestat, have you ever thought about having sex in a public place?" Amber began. Lestat looked at her and blinked his eyes.
"Where and when?" He asked rapidly. Amber looked at him blankly before continuing.
"I, well I'm going to lose a bet to Nose Dive and am gonna have to end up doing that." Lestat frowned.
"What's the problem with that? I fucked... several times out in public but no one ever noticed," Lestat said darkly. Lestat turned his back to Amber and walked to the punching bag again.
"I bet that Mara and Duke would atleast be engaged by their third year of dating." Lestat turned around and walked back to Amber. He bit his lower lip, knowing what was hidden in Duke's locker and had been for the past two weeks.
"If you were to win?" He asked. Amber hung her head, embarassed.
"I really don't want to say; it's humiliating." Lestat's eyes softened and he put a hand on her shoulder. He worked his mouth into somewhat of a smile from the hard frown it had become to have permantly.
"Come on, Amby. You can tell me anything that you want."
"Well," she said hesitantly. "You'll hate me... but I made Nose Dive bet that he'd makeout with you if he lost." Lestat stared at her, hundreds of thoughts racing through his head at the same time; he was being used in vain, but he would get something out of it and Jake had left him for good--a cure to ease the pain. Amber would either get pleasure or a laugh out of it, but still Nose Dive looked so much like him...
"Really?" he said. "Thanks Amber!" He tried to chirp, unsuccessfully, deciding that he got used so often that one more time to the list wouldn't hurt him.
"Thanks?" Amber asked confused.
"I haven't had some in awhile... could use a good go-round," Lestat explained. "Thanks for being so generous." Amber looked at her shoes, knowing damnwell that it wasn't out of being generous.
"Well, doesn't look like it's going to happen. I just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't be mad at me." Lestat smiled and hugged Amber.
"No, thank you. I appreciate it." Amber pulled away and walked out of the room briefly, unable to see his face. Lestat looked at the empty doorspace.
"And once again, I am alone," he said to himself. Lestat walked to his desk and opened the top drawer. Pictures of himself, Jake, Mara, and Duke filled it to the brim. He sorted the photographs stopping at one of Jake and himself flipping the camera off. "Yeah, fuck the world... fuck the world you left me for," Lestat said bitterly, shoving the pictures back in the drawer.
Yawning, Duke rested his head back on his pillow. Today, according to his calendar, was his official day off. No hockey, no emergencies, no social crises involving his teammates love lives...nothing that required any mental or physical trouble on his part. He grinned happily; thus far he'd had five wonderful worry-free hours. He just hoped it would last.
"Hey, what the- AHHH!" Duke yelled.
"Alright L'Orange, we need to talk." Duke looked up at Lestat who was still clutching the mattress of Duke's bed...which he had just flipped over. Duke looked up at his friend from the ground making a mental note that his detection skills were slipping.
"You wanna talk? Go make an appointment with my secretary, I'm busy." Duke mumbled, dusting himself off.
"Busy doing what?"
"Busy doing nothing...I figured I needed more practice at it." Duke grabbed his bed from Lestat and proceeded to fix it up, muttering curses under his breath. "You KNOW it's my day off! My one and only designated day off...one outta 365 days and you had to pick this one to talk? It'd better be DAMN important." Lestat pulled out a small velvet box and held it out to Duke. Duke looked at it for a moment and looked back up at Lestat. So much for no mental anguish... "Now why did you take that out of my locker?"
"Because you're gonna need it. You're asking her to marry you. Today." Lestat retorted firmly.
Shaking his head insistently, Duke backed away from Lestat, "Oh no no no, don't do this to me, not now. I thought it all out last night; I'd be a lousy husband, I'm not ready!"
"The hell you're not. You're practically married already. I already gave her your message."
Puzzled Duke asked, "What message?"
"I told her you're taking her out to dinner tonight at 8. So you've got 5 hours to practice what you're gonna say." Moaning, Duke fell onto his bed.
"LESTAAAAT!!!" He wailed, "Why are you doing this to me?!"
"Brotherly affection. It's time you two tied the knot. Now get up so we can practice."
"Practice?" Duke asked, obediantly rising to his feet, "Practice what?"
"Practice how you're gonna pop the question, dumbass!" Lestat yelled. "What exactly were you thinking about doing? Making it up as you went along?" Duke nodded. "What a planner," Lestat muttered dryly. He motioned for Duke to sit on one side of the bed, and Lestat sat on the other side facing him. "Alright, now I'm Mara and we just finished dinner... what do you say to me?"
"What the hell happened to your hair?" Duke muttered, tugging on a lock of Lestat's copper hair.
"Be serious!!" Lestat smacked Duke. Pouting, Duke nodded in agreement. He looked at Lestat nervously for a moment and cleared his throat.
"You're cute. Wanna get married?" He blurted out.
"Help me find it, would you Mal?" Mara called from inside her closet.
"What are we looking for again?"
"My jewelry box. I put it up here somewhere so you wouldn't steal my things anymore." Mallory smacked Mara and they both giggled.
"Very funny. YOU're the resident thief in this room." Mallory retored.
Taken aback, Mara responded, "I am not! It's only a vocational hobby." Mallory shook her head.
"Oh, wait! There it is!" She pulled the box down and Mara followed her to the bed. Mallory opened the box up and watched Mara open up a few compartments. "Now why do you want this?"
"Duke's taking me out to dinner tonight. It's his day off and I want to look really nice for him." She pulled out a diamond necklace. "Do you like it?" Mallory practically drooled as she took it from Mara.
"It's gorgeous! When did you get it?"
"I didn't. Duke gave it to me on our one month anniversary." Mara said lovingly, putting it on. Mallory pulled out a pearl hair pin in the shape of a rose.
"This is beautiful...where did you get this?" Mara shrugged, taking it from her.
"Don't know...Duke gave it to me."
Smiling, Mallory shook her head, "So is there anything in here that Duke didn't give you?" Mara bit her lip and shook her head.
"Not a thing. I used to try and fight him off, but after a while I gave up...say, was that Amber that just ran past the door?" Mallory nodded.
"She's been acting funny for days now. She keeps yelling things out about public places."
"I worry about my little sister from time to time." Mallory patted Mara's shoulder reassuringly.
"There's nothing to worry about Mara, as far as we know the insane-wack-job genes are on her side of the family!"
"Oh God, Lestat, this isn't working!" Duke moaned, looking at the clock. Four hours had passed; Duke still stumbled through his proposal. "Even IN a dress you don't resemble her!" Lestat pulled on the hair of a black wig that was on his head.
"It's not my fault you have no fucking imagination," Lestat complained, scratching at the sleeve of the dress.
"I'm sorry, but you make an ugly Mara." Lestat glared heatedly at Duke.
"Alright, then what do YOU propose we do?" Duke sighed reluctantly.
"You really want me to do this?"
"Yes." Lestat's tone was much softer this time.
"Take off your dress." Lestat put a hand to his heart.
"Here? Now?" Duke slapped Lestat's face.
"Cut it out, Lestat. I said take off the dress." Lestat looked at him and obediantly took the wig and dress off. "There, you look much better already." Lestat nodded his head and looked at his watch; fourty minutes left. He froze feeling a breath next to his neck. Duke took his hand and lifted Lestat's head so it faced him.
"I could think of a million things to say to you...how beautiful you are, how I love to be near you, how I think about you constantly, but I've always found words lacking. There was never any one word that could describe the way I feel when you walk into the room. We were meant for each other, you and I, we both know that, and nothing would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you, will you marry me?" Lestat stared at Duke trying to speak, but his mouth felt dry and useless. Duke leaned close to Lestat and took his clammy hand again. "So how was it?" Duke chirped brightly. Lestat shook his head from side to side slowly.
"Duke, that was beautiful... really beautiful."
"That's great, only one problem." Lestat raised his right eyebrow at Duke.
"And what the fuck would that problem be?" he demanded.
"Now I'm married to you!" Duke groaned. Lestat bit his lower lip, slightly wounded. "Well, Lestat, you've been a great audience... I guess now I have to put it to the test." Lestat nodded his head in approval and watched as Duke changed from his street clothes to a nicely pressed suit. Lestat handed Duke the box and Duke slipped it into his pocket.
"Thanks Lestat, you're the best. I love ya, man." And as in a flash he was out the door.
Mallory smiled at Mara; she looked radiant in her deep jade dress complete with the diamond necklace, pearl hairpin, and a small silver anklet with an emerald cut into a rose resting on her right ankle. "Marvelous dah-ling," Mallory said with a phony French accent. Mara smiled and ran her fingers over the thin silk dress which stopped around her knees. Anxiously, she examined her wall clock. 7:53 PM.
"Well, I'd guess I'd better be off," she said quietly. "Duke awaits me." Mara winked and both girls left the room. Mallory lingered in the hallway with a happy sigh, contented to know that her dear friend had found her perfect match.
Being careful not to be seen, Lestat peered eagerly out of his doorway. He shook his head as he watched poor Duke tug anxiously at his tie. He'd never seen his friend look like such a wreck. There was no way Duke could do this; he probably wouldn't be able to manage two words all night from the looks of it. But suddenly, a change seemed to come over Lestat's companion. Mara approached Duke silently, as was her custom, and her smile transformed him. All of his friend's anxiety melted away instantly. He watched Duke take her hand and kiss it, deftly leading Mara down the hallway. Lestat closed the door to his room quietly--this would be it if Duke went through with it. His friends would be happy; he'd be alone but that would be no different than before. Lestat moaned unhappily: no more trio, no Mara, no Duke, no Jake... a world without love, without anyone except for himself and his deteriorating sanity. "Silent misery," Lestat declared outloud.
He walked to his bed and reached underneath it to pull out the large black guitar case decorated with band posters and photographs, photographs that he would never look at because Jake took them when Lestat was onstage. Lestat popped the case open and pulled out the multicolored 7 string. After a few moments of tuning, he trudged across the room to plug in his amp. He paused before turning it on and set the guitar on the ground; he had a mic and stand in his closet and could run them through his speakers. The mic-head was dirty, so Lestat wiped the dust off with his shirt before picking up his guitar, adjusting the strap, then turning the system on.
Three hours later Mara ran out of the elevator and into the rec room. She turned and giggled as Duke stumbled in right behind her.
"I win...again." she grinned triumphantly.
"Not fair. I gave you a head start." Mara pushed him and walked away.
"The hell you did! Face it, I'm faster than you, even in heels." Shaking his head, Duke walked to her, "No way, you little liar, YOU cheated!"
"Defensive, aren't we?" Duke took her arm and turned Mara around to face him.
"Defensive? Try honest. Your face is turning red, that means you're annoyed with me and you wouldn't be annoyed if I wasn't right! So I win." Duke boasted quickly.
"I must always be red then because you're ALWAYS annoying!" Mara retorted, turning her back to him.
"Oooh, I musta hit ya real close to the mark to get you all pissed off like this." Mara took a deep breath to compose herself.
"Not at all, Master L'Orange. I'm perfectly calm and I'll have you know I could care less what you think of me." Duke approached her from behind and put a hand on her hip.
He gently responded, "Now I know that's not true, otherwise you wouldn't have worn my favorite dress."
A little embarassed, Mara tried to pull away from him as she murmured, "Well, it was your day off so I thought I'd give you a treat, that's all." Laughing, Duke put his other arm around her, refusing to release her.
"You look beautiful." Duke kissed her neck softly. Mara closed her eyes contentedly, waiting for his kisses to move up her neck to her face. She was sorely disappointed when Duke released her. Noting her disappointment with a grin, Duke took Mara's hand and lead her to the couch. They sat down together, facing one another.
"Alright, we're sitting, now what?" She asked with her usual sarcastic edge. Duke, who had never released her hand, looked down at it, circling her palm with his thumb. Without looking up he ruefully shook his head.
"Y'know if I could look in on this very moment from five years ago I think I'd wretch. I can remember being totally convinced that love wasn't real. I hope you're happy Mara, you're made a total fool of me." Mara nodded slightly.
"Now that you mention it, I'm very happy."
"I love you." Duke said simply, kissing her hand. After a moment he finally looked up into Mara's eyes. "Marry me."
Mara's jaw dropped slightly, "What?" she whispered hoarsely.
"Marry me." Duke repeated softly.
"Are you serious?" He nodded. Mara looked over his face carefully in disbelief. She remained silent for several minutes, her eyes filling up with tears. Taking this as a rejection, Duke released her hand, feeling crushed.
"I knew you'd say no." he murmured sadly. Mara actually began to laugh a little. Puzzled, Duke stared at her, wondering what could possibly be funny.
Finally, Mara shook her head and whispered faintly, "Of course I'll marry you, you silly boy." With a look of astonishment mixed with pure joy Duke put his arms around Mara and pulled her into a kiss. Mara happily acquiesced and kissed him in return. Presently, never removing his lips from hers, Duke took the ring box from his pocket, opened it, and slid the ring onto Mara's finger. Not even bothering to look at the ring, Mara moved into Duke's lap and started another long kiss. It was then that Nose Dive, Amber and Lestat walked in.
Amber looked at the couple and sighed heavily; life was cruel. Nose Dive grinned and took her hand in his. "They're a cute couple, huh?"he said slyly. Amber shrugged her shoulders and nodded, defeated. Once again, Dive was right; it was just too good to ever really happen.
"God, get a room!" Amber moaned in disgust, thinking of her and Nose Dive in the mall. Mara managed to pry herself away from Duke and smile at her little sister.
"But Amber, you didn't believe me when I said that Duke was good at-"
"I don't want to hear it!" Amber shrieked, not noticing Lestat's pallid face. He was staring at Mara's hand... and the large diamond on it. He took in a deep breath before smiling at Duke and giving him a thumbs-up sign. Duke smiled back and gently moved Mara out of his lap.
"Amber, is that any way to talk to your older brother and sister?" Duke scolded her, standing up.
"You're not my brother." Amber muttered bitterly.
"Yet." Duke responded, taking Mara's hand in his. Amber looked up at them, her eyes widening.
"Yet?" she repeated. Nose Dive broke out in a cold sweat: he didn't like the direction this was heading in. Mara stood beside Duke pressing herself to his side. As Duke slid his arm around her Mara put her hand on his chest, making the ring clearly visible.
"We're engaged." Mara said, almost unable to contain herself. Nose Dive's face paled and Amber's jaw dropped in shock. She looked at Nose Dive to see if she heard correctly.
"I know this may be a bit of a shock, but it's true. We're going to get married." Duke confirmed, kissing Mara's forehead. The corners of Amber's mouth slowly curled into a smile and she shook her head.
"THERE IS A GOD!!!!" Nose Dive put a hand to his beak and looked at the ground; he should be happy for them but the bet? Amber would make him go through with it for sure, but the thought made him sick. He looked at Lestat quizically, wondering what exactly Lestat did, but Lestat just hung his head.
"Well, I guess we'd better leave you two love birds alone now," Lestat said quietly. He tapped Duke's shoulder lightly and smiled. "Congrats man, you deserve the best." Duke smiled before pulling Mara close to him. Lestat put a hand on his heart and walked out of the room, followed closely by Amber and Nose Dive. He stopped and took in a deep breath once they were out of Mara and Duke's earshot. "Are you following me because of the bet?"
"Well, yeah. I thought we might as well get it over with," Amber explained casually. Lestat clenched a fist then relaxed it immediately.
"Well, in that case fuck off!" Lestat ran full speed down the corridor and into his room, slamming the door shut behind him. Amber looked at Nose Dive nervously before taking his hand and pulling him to Lestat's room.
"Maybe this isn't such a great idea," Nose Dive said quietly as Amber closed the door behind him. He scanned the room but Lestat didn't seem to be there.
"Amber, don't make him do it," Lestat's voice echoed around the room, making it impossible to locate his position "If he doesn't want to, don't make him."
"See Amb, he doesn't want it and pussied out so I don't have to."
"Whoa, hold the phone," Lestat's voice sounded louder. "You're saying that I pussied out? You're the fucking homophobe who's so prude that when you shoot your load at the same moment it goes up!"
"I swear I will fuck you up. I can keep it going all night long with her."
"Who do you have to compare to? Your hand?"
"It's better then fucking little, crippled boys." Amber gasped and stepped away from Nose Dive.
Lestat swung down from one of the ceiling rafters above. Nose Dive gulped nervously; Lestat was virtually undetectable. "You're only saying that because you know that you could never measure up to your brother," he growled, tongue-in-cheek.
"I don't want to do everything that he does."
"Maybe you should have copied him, would have bettered your stamina."
"Pussy, I swear I will fuck you up." Nose Dive pulled himself and marched right infront of Lestat.
"I'd like to see you try!"
"Fine," Nose Dive said, grabbing Lestat's shoulders and pulling him into a kiss. Lestat clawed Nose Dive's back. "Like that, pretty boy?" Nose Dive sneered competatevely.
"I've had better," Lestat replied bored.
"Oooh, I've only just begun." Nose Dive pulled Lestat to the floor while making out with him. Lestat rolled over and shoved Nose Dive to the floor boards, knocking over his dresser. Nose Dive knocked him off, and rolled into the bedframe, knocking down more furnature.
"Had enough?" Lestat taunted, heaving heavily.
"I want some more!" Nose Dive pulled off his shirt. Lestat tackled Nose Dive and licked his neck. Nose Dive let a small moan escape his lips before he wrapped a leg around Lestat's back and pulled him closer. They started rolling across the room, knocking vases off the shelves. Lestat finally pulled ontop of Nose Dive and stradled him. He pulled his wifebeater off and smacked Nose Dive's face with it.
"Oh yeah, that realy hurts. Try harder next time," Nose Dive said, grabbing Lestat's ass and kissing his collarbone. Lestat gasped and momentarily froze, closing his eyes as Nose Dive attacked one of his weakest places.
"Like that, pretty boy?"
"More," Lestat said choking.
"Fine bitch, how'd you like some more of this?" Nose Dive reached a hand down and undid his belt before pulling his pants down so that he was only in boxers. Lestat bit his lip before they started to make out again, this time allowing himself to be shoved to the bottom. Lestat crawled backwards, with Nose Dive still making out ontop of him, and started to crawl up on the bed. As he was halfway up the side of the bed, with Nose Dive still over him, Lestat wriggled his narrow hips out of his jeans. Nose Dive pinned Lestat down ontop of the bed and brushed one of Lestat's bangs out of his face.
"Gimme some more," Lestat hissed in between pants.
"See if you like this," Nose Dive yelled. Without warning, he slipped a hand inbetween Lestat's legs. Lestat jerked and yelped, feeling an unusual pleasure. "What's wrong, Pussyboy? Isn't this what you want?" Nose Dive taunted as he slipped his hand under the rim of his boxers
"Dive, please," Lestat said hurriedly. His eyes got more white, like a deer under the headlights of a car. Lestat strained trying to keep his manhood under control but Nose Dive was so powerful...
"What, more you say?" Lestat's eyes opened wide and he tried pushing Nose Dive away. Nose Dive pressed on, seeking his dominance over Lestat. "Aren't you a fag? Aren't you supposed to like this?"
"Dive..." Lestat panted as his body started to sweat the way it did minutes before he orgasmed. KoRn's song "Faget" repeated constantly in his head. Nose Dive kissed Lestat's neck and pressed his body firmly against Lestat, letting his hardness press into Lestat's leg. Lestat closed his eyes and clawed the bedspread underneath him, trying to stop it from comming.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN HERE?!" The boys looked up to the doorway--Wild Wing was standing in it looking horrified. Nose Dive jumped away from Lestat stuttering and Lestat pulled his knees up to his chest, hiding his hardon, thankful for his timely rescue.
"Wing, it's not what you think. I lost a bet and had to make out with him and-"
"Lestat, he's just a kid! How could you let him?" Wild Wing demanded, as Nose Dive pulled his pants and shirt back on. Lestat sat on his bed and shook his head.
Lestat started to sing, rotating his head from glaring at Nose Dive, Wild Wing, and Amber. "I'm sick and tired of people treating me this way everyday. Who gives a fuck?! Right now I got something to say to all the people that think I'm strange and I should be out of here locked up in a cage..."
"Big Bro, honestly, you're getting the wrong idea..." Nose Dive interrupted.
"When I see my younger brother almost naked screwing around with an older, bisexual male who has more tattoes than natural pigment of course I'm going to have the wrong idea!"
"But didn't you mess around with him?" Nose Dive attacked. Wild Wing shook his head.
"I was drunk; you were queer. I have a better excuse." Wild Wing turned on his heel and stormed out of the room with Nose Dive following him. Lestat stared at the empty doorway then looked at Amber who was cowaring in the corner as he continued to sing.
"...You don't know what the hell is up now anyway. You got this pretty-boy feeling like I'm enslaved to a world that never appreciated shit. YOU CAN SUCK MY DICK AND FUCKING LIKE IT!!!" Amber trembled before she ran out of his room, never seeing Lestat fully enraged. Lestat walked to the doorway and continued singing, hoping his cries would echoe down the halls. "
I'm just a pretty boy, I'm not supposed to fuck a girl. I'm just a pretty boy, living in this fucked up world!" Lestat slammed the door to his room shut and collapsed against it, sliding to the floor. He sobbed uncontrollably once he hit the ground. 'It would be so easy to end it all', he thought as he felt in his pocket... the cool metal of his gun carressed his fingertips. He pulled out the small tool and looked at it, admiring it silently. 'It would be so easy now to sacrifice,' he thought, smiling sickly. Slowly, he stroked the barrel of the gun with his finger, then faster. He panted feeling warmth in his fingers from the friction and remembered his favorite line from "Cameltosis": Emotional masturbation fucking with my life, fucking with my love, fucking all of the above.
Nose Dive tripped and fell on the floor after he chased after Wild Wing. "Big bro, honest to God, you really came in at the wrong time."
"I don't wanna hear about it. That's just so-ugh!" Wild Wing said, stopping to turn around and help Nose Dive to his feet. "I mean, you have a girlfriend so it's not love or anything."
"But that's the point! It wasn't to be anything. I'm straight and it was a bet; you should know yourself that you never turn down bets." Wild Wing took in a deep breath, remembering kissing Lestat after playing Truth or Dare... and remembering the night that Mallory dumped him for the second time. Lestat and Amber had come to Wild Wing's room in an attempt to cheer him up with a few beers and a ton of movies: the next thing Wild Wing remembered was him waking up with a smile and arms around him from behind. He turned around to kiss her, but froze realizing those arms belonged to Lestat and around Lestat's waist was Amber's arms.
"Alright, maybe it was an unfair situation... but you should try not to let him get too far," Wild Wing finally said. Nose Dive nodded his head, deciding not to bring up who was the one to "start" the extremes. Nose Dive stopped walking with Wild Wing and turned around to Amber, who he knew was following them. Suddenly, pangs of anger flooded him--this was the girl who had caused all of his problems and pain about everything. Amber bit her lip and ran to him very distraught.
"Dive, I'm sor-"
"Shut up."
"Honestly, I'm sorry, I didn't think that-"
"That's your fucking problem, Amber. You don't fucking think... Ever! You never thought before when you hurt me so bad, and once again you hurt me. This is the last time I'm taking your shit."
"What?" Amber asked hoarsely. Nose Dive pulled the chain off his neck and threw it at Amber's feet.
"It's over. Get out of my life."
"I know I've failed you," she cried as Nose Dive stormed down the hallway, following his older brother's tracks. If it wasn't for Amber, he wouldn't have been in such an awkward situation and she knew how straight he was...
Hours later, Duke and Mara were still making out on the couch. Amber watched them with a content sigh, although she felt sick inside. If there was a God, he blessed them at the same time as punishing her. She was selfish, ugly, bitter, and now dishonest.
Amber bit her lip and left the doorway and immediately fell on the ground. "Ouch!" she exclaimed, picking herself up.
"Hey, sorry about that Amber. You seen Duke around?" Amber froze and stared at the sneakers and blue jeans infront of her. She slowly looked up past the red and white varsity jacket and long hair until she got to the pale brown eyes.
"Jake?" Amber whispered hoarsely. Jake smiled and held out a hand for Amber to take. Amber cautiously accepted and Jake lifted Amber to her feet with ease. "Oh my God, what are you doing here?"
"Some of the business got settled. Turns out they made a mistake so I was able to take a leave of absense... a permanent one. I thought I should make some ammends." Amber shook her head.
"I don't know how Lestat's gonna take to seeing you here."
"Well, I was planning on an apology..."
"He's been a wreck ever since... he's lost so much weight. He's killing himself." Jake bit his lip and nodded his head. Amber looked through the doorway to Mara and Duke, knowing that she couldn't introduce their new arrival yet. "Here," she said with a sigh, "-come with me."
Jake followed Amber through the halls and into her room. She quickly changed the sheets on her bed and shrugged her shoulders. "You can stay here for now... tomorrow when Duke has time, I'll have you talk to him."
"And Lestat? When can I speak with him?" Jake asked eagerly.
"Not today," Amber said sternly. At that moment, a loud guitar scheeched in the Pond's PA system. "Oh shit," Amber whispered hoarsely as she began to realized Lestat was starting to sing:
