Mu Omicron Mu Sorority promotes the advancement of mothers through various campus activities and community services, and provides an environment for personal growth within a unit of sisterhood. The primary focus is academic excellence and meeting the needs of mothers in higher education.

Do you have what it takes to be a M O M ?? Read below for some challenging questions you should consider before making that decision:

What is a Sorority? A sorority is defined as a women's student organization that is formed chiefly for social purposes and has a name consisting of Greek letters. However, it offers much more than just membership or social purposes.

A sorority provides academic enhancement, friendship, development of leadership skills and the opportunity to serve the community. As an organization, a sorority generates personal and professional growth through networking and participating in other activities well beyond your college years.

Why do you want to belong to a Sorority? This is a question that needs to be taken SERIOUSLY and should be well thought out and answered honestly. Is there any one right magic answer? Of course not, but it should be answered from the heart. How do you know which is right for you? The one thing that I can not stress enough is DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! Being a part of a sorority is a life-time commitment. You need to know what you are getting into.

How much is it to become a member of a Sorority? Usually it is a lump sum in the beginning and then you will pay dues to your chapter and national headquarters. Every sorority is different so you must inquire, but it is well WORTH IT!!!! Our final bit of advice is to ask, ask, ask. No question is a dumb question. If the person can not answer it, then they will not.

Now that you have receive Sorority 101, now it time to find out what makes M O M different than any other sorority and what can make it right for YOU !

This sorority is supports group but yet also a sisterhood. Many women who are mothers in college miss out on the opportunity to pledge in a sorority because of the time and money requirement. Well not us our monthly dues are only $20 dollars a month plus we only meet four times a month. The major thing that separates us from others is that we DO NOT have a pledge processes, sisters join by a application processes.

Being a member Mu Omicron Mu Sorority requires so much more than just wearing the Greek Paraphernalia or just wanting to call yourself a MOM. You have to be willing to give your all in every aspect of what we are about.

Our role as Mothers envolved in the higher learning community is very prominent. To be a member of Mu Omicron Mu Sorority is to know that your role is one of substance. Your voice would not only carry a vision of your own individual testimonies, but one of a group effort. To be a member of Mu Omicron Mu Sorority you must be willing to put forth the effort in making the voice of Mu Omicron Mu one that rings out loud.

The type of women we are looking for:

Leaders. Women who are not afraid to step up to the plate of leadership
Organized. Women who are organized and knows what it takes to do the job well.
Trustworthy. Women who use honesty as one of their virtues.
Hardworking. Women who are willing to work hard to get the job done.
Respectful. Women who understand what it means to have respect for our organization

The type of women we are not looking for:

Followers. Women who feel they would rather follow than be leaders.
Disrespectful. Women who are rude, disrespectful, and self-centered are a turn-off to our organization.
Non-Participators. Women who feel that all they have to do is apply and not participate.

Immediate Requirements:

Is the age of 18 or older
Has a high-school diploma or equivalent
Is a positive role model for children and a positive representation of a mother.
Possesses talents, skills and qualities of leadership which are beneficial to Mu Omicron Mu
Is able to actively participate in the financial growth of Mu Omicron Mu

Membership Info

Submits an Application for Membership to the chapter, which includes a Letter of Interest
Has been interviewed by the Chapter Membership Committee
Has been approved by a majority vote by Chapter Membership Committee in chapter through which she has applied.

REQUIRED CONTENT OF LETTER OF INTEREST The letter of interest should: State what talents/skills/characteristics that the applicant possesses which would be an asset to the sorority. State any community service activities the applicant is/has been involved with. State any leadership roles that the candidate has held in other organizations. State why the applicant believes that she would be an excellent candidate for membership. Be no longer than 1-2 pages. Be signed and dated by the applicant. Should accompany the Application for Membership.

If you are interested in starting a chapter of Mu Omicron Mu then please send your application as a group. To start a chapter there must be a least four active members. Mu Omicron Mu is not just for mothers , it is open to all women who wants to unite in sisterhood and stand strong to the bond of Mu Omicron Mu.
