Titans in the Mix

Titans advancing to the NCAA Div. I Western Regional Championships were, Jennifer Clarke (PV), Destany Cearley (400H), Jordan Horn (5000m), Kurt Weber (LJ), Matt Turner (HJ), and Johnathan Golden (HJ). Of the six, Jennifer Clarke was the only repeat visitor to the first stage of the championships series. Clarke qualified for all three regional events since the meets’ inception in 2003. BJ Vandrovec, who qualified for the regional, did not attend due to “Temporary Insanity”, resulting in an injury! Advancing to the NCAA National Championships in Sacramento, were Weber and Golden. Weber, after jumping a PB of 25’1” in Eugene, failed to advance to the final, ending his career ranked 3rd on the Titan All-time list.

Golden did qualify for the final, finishing 15th in the country and a season best of 7’1/2”. Golden is the first Titan freshman to ever advance to the National Championships.

USATF Jr. National Championships Carson, Ca Golden and Turner competed in their first national meet, finishing 4th and 5th in the high jump. Johnathan just missed making the Jr. Pan-Am team, which is reserved for the top three finishers. The team competed against the best juniors in North, Central and South America in Windsor, Canada. Turner will be eligible to participate in next year’s junior event.

Alumni still competing… Giovanni Lanaro (’04), competes for Mexico in the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, in Helsinki Finland this week. Gio has jumped 5.65m (18’6 ˝”), this season, and is following up his representation in Athens last summer.
