Wush Fan Kata #1

  1. Step forward with your left foot into a front stance, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and do a thrust with your right hand and the closed fan.
  2. Bring your right foot directly beside your left foot, into an attention stance, with a stomp placing it there, bring your right hand to your right side in a low striking motion, and brace at the forearm with your left hand.
  3. Step to the right side with your right leg into a front stance and begin facing towards your right, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and do a thrust with your right hand and the closed fan.
  4. Pivot slightly to your left, keeping your front stance but turning towards the front again, keeping your left hand in the open handed rising block, and using your right hand to open the fan.
  5. Stay in place and close the fan with your right hand, keeping both feet and your left hand where they are.
  6. Bring your left foot behind your right foot into an X stance, bring your right hand to your right side in a low striking motion, and brace at the forearm with your left hand, be sure and continue facing the front.
  7. Staying in the same stance and facing the same direction, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and use your right hand to open the fan just to your right side.
  8. Step out with your left foot and turn to your left side into a front stance, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and use your right hand to do a closed fan thrust.
  9. Double step to the left, which is the direction you are facing, into another left foot forward front stance, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and use your right hand to open the fan.
  10. Double step to the left, which is the direction you are facing, into another left foot forward front stance, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and use your right hand to open the fan.
  11. Bring your left foot behind your right foot into an X stance, bring your right hand to your right side in a low striking motion, and brace at the forearm with your left hand, this time you are facing the right side.
  12. Spin to left 360° so that you are back to facing the right and slide your left foot out into a broken leg stance, or front stance with your back, right, knee bent, take your open left hand with fingers tightly together up by your right shoulder, and do a powerful high to low strike with your right hand with a closed fan, be sure and follow through with the strike so that your body is twisted towards the front, but not your stance.
  13. Keeping your left hand by your right shoulder, pivot slightly towards the right, and straighten the back leg into a front stance, then do a rising block with your right hand and the closed fan.
  14. Skip forward into an L stance, bring your hands to your sides like you started the kata, with your left foot making the | and your right foot making the __.
  15. Lunge forward into a front stance with your right foot forward, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and do a thrust with your right hand and the closed fan.
  16. Bring your right foot back to your left, and pick up your left foot and hold it just past and above your right knee, in a reverse hook stance, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and open the fan with your right hand, you should now be facing the front.
  17. Turn to left and place your left foot down, then spin 360° to the left, continuing to face that same side, ending with your left foot forward in a front stance, with your left arm bracing at the inside of your elbow, with a right hand closed fan thrust.
  18. Step back and cross over the line where your left foot is in a stomp, then turn your body towards the front again, bringing your left foot around to be in front going into another broken leg stance, do a rising block with your left hand, but instead of a fist have a tight open hand, and do a closed fan thrust with your right hand.
  19. Staying in the same stance bring your left hand to brace the inside of your elbow as your right hand opens your fan.
  20. Spin the fan 360° vertically in the air, bringing your right foot to your left into an attention stance, catch the fan with your right hand directly in front of your body, and keep your left hand at your side.
