Classes 2014

For now, The Delaplaine is not offering any glass bead making classes so I am not scheduled to teach for 2015 anywhere. If that changes…and it may!….I will post my schedule here.

PLEASE! If you ever find that links on this site are not working properly or there are any other problems, please email me at debbyweaver7@yahoo.com

March 8, 2015

It's a rainy morning here in the Keys so I dug out my laptop to update my web page. I can't do that from my iPad, which is what I usually use……drives my hubby nuts! I think I just deleted the posts from earlier this year! I am sure I have posted since I got here…..didn't I? Well, I will try to catch you up a little. It has been kinda windy and difficult to torch outside, but I have been doing stuff.

In January, I participated in a seed beading retreat here in Key West, Beading in Paradise. I took classes from Kate McKinnon and Marjorie Barnes. Didin't finish anything that weekend but did eventually finish my projects.

This is the bead embroidery on lace project I began in Marjorie's class, eventually finished it so it can be worn as a pin or a pendant. It was supposed to have a beaded chain, but I wanted it to have more options. The cab was the fused half of a broken bead that Fran Wren fused for me. A real show stopper of a cab!

This is my project from Kate's class. Again, it was supposed to be something different. It was supposed to be a ring and it was…and fit great…..but it was huge! So I made it into a pendant. I like it a lot better this way.

I have added a lot of work to the local bead shop since I got here, Impossible Things. Most I didn't take pictures of. I'm bad….. But here are some leather bracelets I put in for those who love Valentine's Day and hearts:

And I just finished some other new pieces and delivered them last week:

Although I haven't sent any of the newest work to my other galleries, I am working on getting more made to send! Hope to send everyone something new in the next couple of weeks. And I am getting ready for the Virginia Hot Glass Festival, April 25&26, at Sunspots Studio in Staunton, VA. This is the first show of the year for me and I always try to have something new!!!! Hope to see you there!

I will try to keep in better touch….
And you can find me on Facebook under "Debby Brown Weaver"!

December 7, 2014

WOW! Where has this year gone??? I must admit that I have been posting what I am doing more on Facebook then here. Shame on me! They do make it easy! If you want to friend me there, search for "Debby Brown Weaver" - Brown is my maiden name as well as my middle name. I have found a lot of my former classmates by adding that. Anyway……friend me there!!!

My last show of the year is at The Glass Resort here in Frederick on English Muffin Way, next Sat, Dec.13, from 9-5. My glassy friends and I will be melting glass and creating magic all day! We all will also have wonderful items for your gift giving needs (or for yourself!) Join us for a fun day!

Here are some of the new things I have been working on!

I have also placed new items at the Gift Gallery at Delaplaine here in Frederick, MD, Impossible Things in Key West, Fl, and at Gifts Inn Boonsboro in Boonsboro, MD.

We had a very blessed Thanksgiving with our family and are praying for a Merry Christmas! Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday!

June 26, 2014

We are changing the date for the summer Beginning Beadmaking class at the Delaplaine. It will now be held the weekend of July 12-13. If the date in June did not work for you, now you have another chance! Sign up now! And we will let more experienced bead makers work in an Open Torch situation on Sat, July 12. Hope to see you then!

June 16, 2014

Good Morning! It is a beautiful day in June (with a heat wave predicted for this week) and I will begin the day by unpacking the car from this past weekend's Best Bead Show in Laurel, Md. It was so nice to see my Baltimore area friends and customers. No more shows now for awhile but I will be working to get new beads and new pieces to the various shops and galleries that carry my work. And I want to work on some new designs. So the summer will be busy both in the studio and with yard work!!!!!!

Enjoy!

February 28, 2014

Well, since I last posted, my laptop crashed big time!!!! It was in the shop for almost three weeks but now is back up and running with a new hard drive. That is the good news, the bad news is none of the data could be saved. So it will take me awhile to get things back up and running on here. I will get some pictures of what I have been working on and get them posted soon. Fingers crossed!

Hope all is well with everyone!

February 6, 2014

We are in sunny Key West for the winter! I have no shows scheduled down here any more.....just kicking back and enjoying being retired. This doesn't mean I am not working! The torch has not been set up yet because have had to move our campsite but... soon, I hope! I have been doing some bead weaving and bead embroidery. As soon as I have some of these projects completed, I will post pictures!

The exciting news is that there is a new bead emporium in Key West called Impossible Things. Lois and Mark Songer have recently opened this neat little shop and they currently have a collection of my beads plus a few finished items. If you are coming to Key West, please find them on Whitehead Street beside Rubies and Clay!

I will try to finish up some of my beaded projects and get those pictures posted real soon!

November 18, 2013

Hi, Everyone!

The holiday show season is in full swing and I am busy, busy, busy! I have another show this coming weekend in Burkittsville, MD. This quaint little town is a few miles south of Middletown on Route 17. The show is held in the historic German Reformed Church (no longer used for services but still has beautiful reminders of it's service to Christ). There is quite a nice collection of artists participating so it becomes a wonderful opportunity to find unique holiday gifts. Please consider doing some of your gift buying - both for friends and family and yourself! - this weekend! In some cases, there is still time for special orders!

November 8, 2013

This fall has been so busy. Hope to see you all this weekend at the Bead Society of Greater Washington's Fall Bead Bazaar. I will have bunches of new beads as well as some finished work! Use the coupon below to save a bit!

September 19, 2013

Summer is over! Can you believe it! This last week a cold front has come through and we now have chilly nights and coolish days. We got a chance to get away to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and just chill while it was still fairly warm. Now to think about the fall. I love this weather but things are always so busy.

I finally got some professional pictures of my new work. The son of a friend has been taking her pictures for a long time and a lot of my beady friends use him. It is really hard to get good pictures of these small creations but.... I thought I would give him a try. Here is the group shot of my newest beads by David Orr Photography.

And show season is starting!!!! My first show of the fall will be the Northern Virginia Bead Society's Bead Bazaar in Annandale, VA. Below is the discount card and information about the show. Print this out and bring it with you to save a bit. Tell me that you saw this post and I will take 5% off your purchase (but remind me! If it gets busy, I sometimes forget!!!!!! Don't let me!!) If you can't make this show, I hope to see you at one of the others I am doing this fall. Lots of new beads and some old favorites!

August 2, 2013

I'm back from the Gathering! Wow! It is always a real boost! I have ideas and inspiration from the best beadmakers in the world. I had good sales at the bazaar and sold a couple pieces out of the "Awakenings" juried pendant show! Woo Hoo! Now to get house stuff done and get down to work!

Meanwhile, it is the "Dog Days of August" at the Gift Gallery at Delaplaine here in Frederick, MD. Jean asked Beth and I if we had anything we could put in the Gallery for this - so I made beads and Beth made silver doggie stuff and used them! If you love your dog, I bet you could find something special. Stop by and check them out!

Here are some samples!

July 22, 2013

I'm off today to Rochester, NY, for the annual Gathering of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers. Woo Hoo! I will be spending 5 days with my glass peeps, going on tours, seeing shows, demos, presentations, buying new glass and tools, and all kinds of other fun stuff. There will be a Bazaar on Saturday, July 27, at the Hyatt Regency at 125 East Main Street, Rochester, NY. I will have a selection of my loose beads there. But the truth is - this is the best Bead Bazaar in the whole country if you are looking for handmade, one of a kind beads. It is amazing how many different things can be done with this same material. I am sharing a picture of my last beads I got made before packing up. If you are in the area, get the details and come see all the goodies!!!!

July 2, 2013

What a bust summer so far! I have had three fun-filled classes at the Delaplaine already! I won't be teaching again until the fall but I sure had fun with these folks! I am working right now with Virginia to get classes scheduled during their fall session. I already have shows and trips planned that I have to work around. As soon as I have definite dates, I will post them here!

I have received word that my submissions for the annual ISGB juried shows have been accepted! Woo Hoo!!! I have posted below the pieces I am sending to Rochester for the Pendant Show - "Awakenings". As soon as I have details of where and when this show will be held, I will post it here and on my show page.

The bead chosen for the ISGB Juried Bead Show, "Geometric", is one from the same series as the beads in the bottom picture.

Next week, I was be traveling to Appleton, Wisconsin, where my friends are opening the Butterfly Gardens Of Wisconsin. The grand opening will be Sat. and Sun., July 13-14. I will have a table with some of my work available, leaning heavily on floral and butterfly themed work. Please come by and check out the gardens and my work! (follow the link for address and directions)

I have also added the ISGB Bazaar in Rochester, NY, on July 27th. This is a one day event that features glass beadmakers from all over the world. At the same location will be an area just for those vendors we call "tech vendors". They sell glass, tools, equipment, jewelry making supplies, and all kinds of other goodies. If you are in the area, add this event to your calendar. (follow the link for more information)

May 13, 2013

On May 16, 2013, Gifts Inn Boonsboro's is hosting a Girls Night Out - Thursday evening from 6-9pm. This is something new for me and I think, will be a lot of fun. Since GIB already carries a nice selection of my work, I am bringing lots of loose beads! Including beads that fit the Pandora and Troll (and other) bracelet systems. Bring your bracelets to find that special, one of a kind glass bead. And bring a favorite chain and let us create a necklace together. I will have accent beads both in glass and sterling silver as well as some cables and cords to help you create that special piece!

Here is a peek at a couple of the bead trays I am getting ready for you! I plan on having at least 5 trays! As well as two smaller trays of the bracelet beads! Lots of goodies!

April 9, 2013

I'm back!!!! Back in Maryland! We've unpacked the trailer and I finally got back into the studio today. No new beads to show yet - but hopefully soon. I am getting ready for the Virginia Hot Glass Festival, April 27 & 28, at Sunspots Studio in Staunton, VA. Hope to have some new things to show all the terrific people who always attend this show. Mark your calendar! This is a must see show! All glass!!!!!!

I didn't get as much new glass I had hoped in Key West this year - it was very windy. I have an outside studio set up there that usually works out very well. But not this year. But I did so some awesome bead work with my teachers, Jean Disrud and Jenni Gerstle and the Monday afternoon beaders. Pictures below. And I am working on ideas to combine all these new techniques! Wonder where this will lead me? Keep checking!!! And, hopefully, soon some of these things will show up in my Etsy Shop!

I took these two beaded kumihimo cords to KW in hopes of making glass flowers and beaded leaves. Jean taught me how to make Russian leaves and this is the result.

Then I took a workshop with Jenni Gerstle and she and Jean, taught me how to make some of those sulptural techniques in Kate McKinnon's new book on geometric beadwork. Here's what I did!

Keep checking here and on my Facebook page to see more!

February 4, 2013

One of the items on my to do list this winter was to open an Etsy Shop so people could purchase my work on line. Welllllll........
Drum roll.........

I have just opened Debby Weaver Beads (take out the spaces to find me) on Etsy. There is not a huge amount of work in there so far but I will be adding more. I also need to find out some of the ins and outs of that on line world in order to spread the word. But you all been very patient and have asked about buying on line so here we go! Any suggestions are always welcome!

Follow this link to check me out!!! Debby's Etsy Shop

Here are some new flowers I just made. They are not on Etsy but are for a major project that I am working on - combination of kumihimo, seed beading and lamp work. I do have some ideas cooking in this ol' brain! Stay tuned!

January 21, 2013

Happy New Year! Yes, I know I am pretty late wishing you that. I guess I got everything done I needed to do for the holidays and kinda went on vacation. I am on Facebook but I don't know how to put a link here! Look me up!

We made our annual trip to Key West earlier this year. We got down here in time for New Year's Eve and we will be here until April 1 when we head home. Thankfully, we have a wonderful house sitter who will not only be living in our home while we are gone but will be taking care of the kitties. Thank you so very much, good friend! And this trip will be different because I will not be doing my usual Keys shows. I am taking a break and going to work on some new ideas without the pressure of getting ready for shows. My first show this year will not be until the end of April when I will again be doing the Virginia Hot Glass Festival in Staunton, VA.

One other thing I am going to be working on this winter - an Etsy site. Since I do not have a shopping cart on this site, I am planning on dipping my toe into online sales this way. Everyone says I should. Fingers crossed that I can figure it out!

Keeping checking back. As I come up with new things, I will post them here and on Facebook. and a very Happy New Year to you all!

November 13, 2012

This show is awesome! Quite a selection of artists' work including mine. Please come and begin your holiday shopping - supporting local artists, supporting small businesses, supporting "Made in America" products! You'll hit it out of the ball park!

November 5,2012

This coming weekend (November 10-11. 2012) is the Annual Fall Bead Bazaar sponsored by the Bead Society of Greater Washington. I have done this great bazaar in Gaithersburg for lots of years and always find treasures I have to come home with as well see new and returning customers. Follow this link to access a discount card for the entrance fee.

At the last show I did, people requested beads that would fit the new leather bracelets I had. I only had finished bracelets, but for this show I have been making loose beads if you are making your own. Here are a few :

I have also been exploring variations of the what I call my "Simply Elegant" beads:

October 5, 2012

I have been busy getting ready for the Northern Virginia Bead Society's Annual Bead Show this coming weekend. Below is a hint at some of the new beads - from wonkie to elegant!! Please come see the whole selection! Below is a $ off coupon.

September 16, 2012

Just finished a fun weekend with four awesome students at the Delaplaine in Frederick, MD. We had fun - laughed a lot! - and made lots of cool beads!!!! Hope we get some more folks the next time, too. I love sharing the wonder of melting glass and making beads!

August 22, 1012

I'm home!!!!! - from the ISGB Gathering in Seattle and the trip to Alaska! Still doing laundry and catching up. And, of course, I have made no new work since mid-July. But I have all kinds of new ideas. As soon as things settle here a bit, I will be on the torch! Hopefully with lots of new work. I had a wonderful time but it is time to be home and working for a bit. I will be posting pictures as soon as I can spend some serious time on the computer. Stay tuned!

July 20, 2012

Where is this summer going??? I am off to Bellvue, WA (Seattle area) for the ISGB 20th Annual Gathering. Very exciting!!!! I will see old friends and make new ones. And I'll see lots and lots of beautiful handmade glass beads. And get ideas. While I am on the other side of the country, I am planning on going on to ALASKA! Woo-hoo!!!! It will be a while until I get home again but I can't wait for all the ideas and inspiration!!! Should be an exciting fall in the studio this year!

May 29, 2012

I have a fresh pot of plant stakes priced and ready to go to the Gift Gallery at Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center, Frederick, MD! And I took another pot of them to Gifts Inn Boonsboro Boonsboro, MD, yesterday! Just in time for you to put them into your flowering pots. And since they don't fade, they'll be good for indoor plants come fall.

I will be at the Delplaine this Sat and Sun (June 2-3, 2012) as one of the demoing artists from the Frederick Hot Glass Society. This weekend Frederick Festival of the Arts will be taking over downtown Frederick and there will lots going on. Come by the Delaplaine and see what all we are up to! All the artists demonstrating flame work, will also have work in the Gift Gallery for sale!

May 16, 2012

A week or so ago, a friend and I went to see another friends' daughter in her high school production of "Little Shop of Horrors". Several years ago I had made glass flower stakes but not recently. Well, "Audrey II" inspired me. I had to make one for this girl. Then I started some new variations of my older flowers. What do you think?

May 15, 2012

WOW! I thought things were busy before, they have been even busier since we got back from Key West. While we were there, I made connections to two new locations. Click here to link up with my information page and get information about the Shoppers Wharf in Bays Head, NJ, and the Wine Cottage in Key West, FL. The end of April, I traveled to Staunton, VA, for the 10th Annual Virginia Hot Glass Festival. I have also recently added new work to Gifts Inn Boonsboro and Delaplaine Visual Arts Gift Gallery just in time for Mother's Day! Things really have been busy.

Now that I am getting the hang of my new laptop, I sure hope to be able to post information and pictures more often. So please check back!

As always - enjoy each day to the fullest!
Debby
