Johnny English

Having seen the previews for this movie, I had the impression that it was going to me Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean as Johnny English. Also, keep in mind I was never a fan of Mr. Bean, and I probably never watched an entire episode. Needless to say, my expectations for this movie were fairly low. Much to my shock, this movie was as entertaining as any summer comedy has been this year. Granted that doesn't say much, but compared to other comedies, this is the Office Space of Summer 2003 in my opinion. The comedy is juvenile enough for the kids to enjoy, but also smart enough for the adults to enjoy, a rarity these days. The plot is fairly straight forward. Atkinson, as Johnny English is a wannabe (yo tell me what you want what you really really want)...Sorry about that, where was I? Oh yeah, Atkinson is a wannabe secret agent, who after the untimely, and humorous death of the other secret agents is thrust into action to stop the theft of the Queen's jewels. This movie also stars Natalie Imbruglia, who's as far as I know, making her acting debut. How'd she do? Well if the job was to make Shan the Man drool, job well done. Then there's John Malkovich, who's french accent was so overdone, there's no way to hold back laughter. I hope that was the point. Bottom line, this movie has a plot thin as a wafer, but is what it is, and that's a comedy. I give it a 7/10
