Team America: World Police
I have waited the entire year for a movie to totally blow my mind. Some have come close, but nothing has been worth me giving a ten rating yet. Well, that has all changed. Team America: World Police, from the same geniouses who do Southpark, is that movie. Its basically a comment on the US policing the world and its new war on terroroism. And, its done with marionettes. Yes, that's right, puppets. Its the only movie like it this year, and probably for a long time to come.
The basic plot follows a team of anti-terrorist fighters as they make the world safe for everyone. This includes the odd civilian casualty, and the destruction of major landmarks in whatever country they happen to be in. This time around, the threat is someone supplying terrorists around the world with weapons of mass destruction. The team recruits an actor to infiltrate a terrorist cell to get information. Things go wrong, and even though the team thinks they've stopped the threat, another cell destroys the Panama Canal.
After the public turns their back on Team America, and Micheal Moore blows up their headquarters, the team is captured by the real villian, the leader of South Korea. Along with the Film Actors Guild, he intends to set off numerous WMDs and turn the entire world into the third world. However, the team gets some help and save the day in the end. And they go back to telling everyone else how to live.
Now, this movie had me in stitches the entire time. I have not laughed that hard in a long time. The puppet versions of celebrities were spot-on, and the soundtrack featured so many great songs by DV-DA, the band including Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Nothing beats seeing marionettes swearing like sailors, killing other puppets, and blowing stuff up. Except for maybe marionette sex with anatomically incorrect puppets. Creepy, but very funny. All in all, if you like blunt, offensive comedy, this is your movie. It gets the first 10 of the year.
