Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy
Ah, Will Farrell. The new comedy genious on the block. After proving his comedy chops on Sarturday Night Live, Old School, and finally Elf, Anchorman proved it again.
It follows the exploits of a 1970's news team, headed by Farrell as Ron Burgandy, Paul Rudd as the roving reporter, and Steve Carell as the idiot weatherman. Their macho world is thrown into turmoil when a female anchor, played by Christina Appelgate, threatens to move in. Burgandy courts the girl, but when she takes his place, things get ugly. They attempt to one-up each other until he gets fired. In the end, of course, things work out for Burgandy, and he gets his life back.
Okay, so the plot is old, but the comedy is amazing. Farrell is on all the time, playing that line between macho and idiot, as well as all his co-anchors. Carell steals the show as the I.Q. of 48 weatherman who just babbles the entire movie. Plus, there's cameos by Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Tim Robbins, Luke Wilson, and Jack Black. Jack Black's was great because he punted Burgandy's dog over a bridge. I laughed so hard I almost peed. It was just a hilarious movie experience. And it gets an 8.
