King Arthur
I was so pumped to see this movie. The previews showed a movie that was right up my alley. Lots of sword battles, heroism, and a cast of mostly unknowns pushig the action. I was not dissapointed.
The story follows the legend of King Arthur, only pushed back into the end of the Roman Empire. Arthur is half-Roman, and his knights are from a shamed clan forced into the knighthood. They are defending the far-off outpost of Britain from the Saxons. When the time comes for the knights to be disbanded, it is found that the Romans are pulling out of Britain. But, they need a Roman family living very close to the Saxon land. Arthur's knights are dispatched on one last mission.
Only one is killed, and when they get back, they have the Saxons knocking down the door. Arthur decides to defend the line, and his knights turn around as well. They join the good British people, namely the Celts. Their princess, Guinivere, and king, Merlin, join Arthur and his knights in fighting back the Saxons. The final battle is epic and glorious, and the good guys win.
Each performance is superb. The comaraderie between the last knights, Lancelot, Galahad, etc, is so good to watch. The action is very well done, a credit to director Antwone Fuqua. There were maybe two CGI shots in the whole movie, with most of the stunts and effects done very well in the flesh. I love that. And the bad guy, head of the Saxons, is super. I believe he's a Skarrsgard, but I can't remember which one. Not over the top, not too subdued. Just excellent.
So, this little adventure gets an 8. Well done!
