Shrek 2
Of all the movies, I didn't think that Shrek needed a sequel. The guy got the girl, the villian got what was coming to him, and everyone was happy. However, after seeing said sequel, I'm glad they did one. The movie basically shows what happens after the heros live happily ever after. Fiona and Shrek are invited to the Kingdom of Far Far Away, to meet Fiona's parents. Of course, her parents believe that Fiona has married one Prince Charming and the Ogre curse has been lifted.
The first meeting between Shrek and his in-laws goes horribly, and then the meddling begins. the Fairy Godmother, who's son is Prince Charming, extorts the king into getting rid of Shrek. He hires Puss in Boots to kill the ogre, but he's a pushover and joins Shrek. Together with Donkey, they steal a Happily Ever After potion from the Fairy Godmother. It turns Donkey into a horse and turns Shrek into a man. Fiona is also changed into her old self. They have to kiss by midnite to make the potion permanent.
The Godmother finds out, and turns it into her advantage. She gets Charming to pose as a transformed Shrek. And gets the king to give Fiona a love potion. Of course, nothing goes as she plans, and Shrek and Fiona end up together. As ogres.
With the original cast returning, along with John Cleese, Julie Andrews, Rupert Everett, Jennifer Saunders, and Antonio Banderas, this movie was so great. Every character, of course, was ripped out of fairy tales, and the contexts were all out of sorts. It makes for a trippy experience when you think about it. And the pop culture refernces....so much better than the first. On the whole, the entire movie was just as good as the first, and it shows that a good sequel can be made, even if it doesn't need to be. It had enough adult humour mixed with the kiddie stuff to make it enjoyable for anyone. Even though it played a lot like the first, it was just different enough to make it original. I was entertained, and you will be too. Go see it. 9 of 10.
