Starsky & Hutch

Yes, I'm back again. This time its with the movie version of Starsky & Hutch. This one stars Ben Stiller as Starsky, Owen Wilson as Hutch, Snoop-Dogg as Huggy Bear, and Vince Vaughn as the villian. Its also directed by Todd Phillips, the genious behind Road Trip and Old School. I have never seen the 70s television series, so I was just going on the fact that the cast looks so wonderfully funny. And they were. Stiller's Starsky was gung-ho and always pulling his gun, and Wilson's Hutch was laid-back and smooth.
Both have great chemisrty together, and along with Vaughn doing his best over-the-top drug dealer, it was well acted. Add in smaller roles by Will Farrell, Amy Smart, Carmen Electra, and the original Starsky and Hutch, and the cast propelled this movie. The plot was pretty straight forward. Vaughn has developed a type of cocaine that is undetectable, and is going to sell it fairly soon. The heros stumble on a dead body which is tied to the deal. Their investigation takes several twists, but in the end, they solve the crime.
All in all, it was an entertaining romp, with several funny bits and some good action. Its clear that Stiller and Wilson are going to be the Matthau and Lemmon of their generation, and Todd Phillips obviously knows how to do comedy. And kudos to Vince Vaughn, who can do the straightest comedy around. So, it gets a 7. Go see it.
