Platform 2004


The following is a brief explanation on a few of the areas that the Canadian Peoples' Party intends to change and place an emphasis on for the growth of Canada.

Environment

*A federal tax of 4% at purchase time on vehicles that require over 80L and a tax of $75 a year for owning these vehicles
*A federal tax on owning a second vehicle of $50 a year (except for motorcycles & alternative energy vehicles)
*1.5 billion a year to begin the creation of a thriving industry for alternative energy
* Four year plan to eliminate non-recyclable packaging, including a 3 year taxation period, followed by a year of heavy fines for non-compliance
*500 million will be spent to compensate farmers for growing organic foods

Health

*A centralized system of health care that will be the same from province to province for all Canadians
*16 billion will be provided over four years to improve health care across Canada
*2 billion will be spent year to upgrade clinics to accommodate for a larger variety of injuries and sicknesses in order to reduce waiting times in hospitals
* A low-income family medical insurance program will be set up in each province for prescription medications
*Brand-name medications will be taxed 10%, and any delay on the availability for generic drugs will be outlawed
*Abortion will be made easily accessible to every woman in Canada

Taxation

*All forms of general taxes (education, health, pensions, ect)that are deducted from salaries will be combined under one form of taxation: income tax.
*Income tax will be set at the following: 20% for under $25 000, 25% for $25 000-$80 000, 30% for $80 000-$200 000, 40% for anything above $200 000.
*Increase in taxation will go towards the Canadian Pension Plan

Defense

*Maintain peacekeeping stance
*Increase funding for military from 1.2% of GDP to NATO's standard of 2% of GDP
*Reduce reliance on US protection
* Funds will go towards advancing Canada's weaponry, and to train and compensate troops

Education

*A total of 8 billion over four years will be spent to better all levels of education in Canada
*500 milllion will be spent immediately to reduce tuition costs
*2 billion will be spent over four years to increase funding for secondary schools in order to make class sizes significantly smaller
*Student Learning Bonds will be established for low-income families (under $30 000)
*The increase in funding will also go towards daycare aid for lower middle class families
