Tub Tails
It was hot, dark and steamy. The wind howled outside. I slid back and tried to relax. As I slowly closed my eyes, the sweet scent of jasmine rose around my body. Suddenly to my right, a menacing growl filled the dark. With fear turning my blood to ice water, I quickly turned my head and snapped my eyes open to behold the dark disapproving stare of ...Mae, my 12 year old Airedale? I bet you thought that this was the steamy beginning of an oldfashioned horror story - right? WRONG! With one more disgruntled growl, Mae turned tail and stomped from the room. For, you see, I was relaxing in Maeıs bathtub. Mae thinks it is a terrible sin to fill up a perfectly good bathtub with water and all that ³smelly stuff². How can a dog even think of sleeping in a tub thatıs all wet and stinking of flowers? Mae always loved her crate. It was her bed of preference. Nowhere in the house was as good as the olı crate. Then, last summer, I moved and Mae decided that the bathtub was the height of fashion for an old dogıs sleeping quarters. Crates were simply passe. Iıll never figure out why she would prefer a hard old tub to a nice comfy crate, but she does. So now, after the humans have a bath, you must remember to put in the non-slip bath mat, the woolly bathroom rug and, oh yes - don't forget the tub pillow and the rubber ducky! If you ever come to our house and have to use the facilities, donıt be alarmed if you hear strange noises behind the shower curtain. Itıs only Mae! the bathtub dog.
