Poetry for Scotty

It seems like just
A little while ago
You raised your tiny head
And smiled at me
For the first time
And I smiled back with tears
I loved you so much then
Though you've grown a little older
And have begun to live your dreams
And to pursue your own goals
I still look to your beautiful smile
To know things are all right with you
And I am so very proud of you
And I love you even more now
If that is even possible
You will never leave my heart
And you will always be
My perfect little boy....

I love you,
Mom

I wrote this poem for Scotty and put it in his backpack
when he had gone to his Dad's for the weekend a couple of months before the accident.
I stayed up half the night writing it, and I don't even know why
it was so important to me at the time...
He got home and said to me, "I got the poem you wrote for me Mom,
And I liked it a lot. Thanks."
I am so glad I took the time to say these things to my son.
I am so glad he acknowledged them to me and I know he read them
And knew how much I love him, in spite of the fact that I told him and showed him daily.
Every night when he went to bed, I told him.
He would always say the same thing to me every night
"Goodnight Mom. You are the best Mommy in the whole wide world, and I love you."
What a gift and comfort this poem and his words have been to me.....
