i will write about this some day ;)
My opinions are constantly changing about the api. one minute i love it, the other minute i hate it.
once i get my feelings together about the api, i will write a nice article about direct3d (version 8.0)

update-> november 15, 2000;
okay, this is going to be relateively short; just cause i don't have the time for these things any more.
btw, i'm turning 19 on nov 17, 2000 for all that care, 'happy birthday to me' again :)
heh

anyways,
everytime an neat extrension opengl wins a battle, but the fact of the matter is directe3d has won the war.
once they have more stuff in harddware it will really be cool, and it's funcinalotity with speed with match today's reg combiner
under GL.
and't that's just a matter of time.
its' not like nvidia's register combiners are going to be found on any other cards imho.

so, in closing, i'm switching over to d3d, because
a.) ms is actually updating there code base
b.) ms controls opengl wheters sgi/arb wants to admit it or not
c.) sgi has made me loose tons of money, i bought shares at 8 i think, sold at 4 or something.
d.) ms is making the xbox as well, so this will give them a better insight on how to update the next generation api,
with all the developer feedback/ihv's...
e.) i know some of the guys on the dx team, and i might end up moving to seattle, so it's nice to have something
to talk about.. ;) but tehre are some nvidia gl guys in austin, and i already know gl ;)
f.) D3D has WON.

hmm, this kind of reminds me of the whole netscape versus ie, thing.
oh well, it worked out better for the developer in the end; i guess that is what matters.

peace,
akbar A.
